Description
“Mr. John Wetton!” … The latest live album is here, and even that word is heartwarming. Their performance in Japan in November last year is still fresh in their memory, but that was the end of their 2016. The new year of 2017 began with a North American tour in February. However, what happened in between was the death of John Wetton. Of course, Wetton was never involved with YES, and his death will not affect their activities. However, the opposite is very relevant, and of the six current tour members, four have worked under the name “ASIA”. That is why the news of Wetton’s death is so big, and “Heat Of The Moment” is dedicated to him on the current tour. This work is the best recording that represents such a latest tour. This work contains the “February 12, 2017 Pompano Beach performance”. Let’s take a look at the journey from Chris Squire’s death to the present. 《Chris Squire dies》 ・August-September 2015: North America #1 (28 shows) ・November 2015: North America #2 (5 shows) ・April-June 2016: Europe (25 shows)《Alan White leaves → Jay Schellen joins》 ・July-September 2016: North America #3 (28 shows)《Alan partially returns》 ・November 2016: Japan (6 shows)《John Wetton dies》 ・February 2017: North America #4 (11 shows) ←★Here★ ・April 2017: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony This is the full schedule that has been announced since Chris’ death. The Pompano Beach performance in this work is the fifth concert of “North America #3”. This work, which contains such a show, is truly the finest audience album. It is classified as an audience recording, but the direct feeling of the sound that flows out is a direct feeling that makes the line recordings run away barefoot. The audience’s conversations can be heard between songs, so it must be a customer recording, but the musical sound itself has almost no venue sound, and it feels like a sound board directly connected to the table. To be honest, YES looks good with audience recordings, and I think that the venue sound is also great, but this work has little nuance. Rather, it is a super-straightforward album that I would recommend to sound board fans. The latest YES depicted with that sound is still as wonderful as ever. In the Japanese performance, “Yes Songs” was sold (probably for adult reasons), but as soon as they returned to North America, they returned to the original “drama reproduction + partial reproduction of ocean topography”. The contrast between the driving first half and the dramatic second half is also vivid, and a conceptual show that makes you think, “I wish they had done it like this in Japan…” is played out. This work also values the same composition, and has been arranged as “Disc 1 = drama reproduction + 2 songs”, “Disc 2 = partial reproduction of ocean topography”, and “Disc 3 = encore”. And, of course, the highlight is “Heat Of The Moment” which is performed at the end of the encore. It is a great representative song that begins with Steve Howe’s “Mr. John Wetton!” In addition to Howe and Geoff Downes, the current YES also has Billy Sherwood, who is substituting for Wetton on the latest ASIA tour, and even Jay Schellen, who played drums during the “John Payne” era. “Heat Of The Moment” is dedicated to Wetton, who was the “voice of ASIA”. To be honest, because it was a sudden death, the ensemble is not at all familiar and is quite dangerous. However, the desire to play and the enthusiasm of the audience who responds to it are absorbed in abundance. In addition, this work also has a DVDR on Disc 4 that conveys the “scenery” of the Pompano Beach performance. The main part is the footage released by Taper who recorded discs 1-3, which is short at 5 songs, but the quality is extraordinary. It was shot from a close seat on the left side of the stage (closer to Howe), but the closeness was extraordinary, and only the stage occupied the entire screen. It is a superb view like one angle of a professional shot, including the ultra-vivid image quality of the latest equipment. If it is so close, it is no wonder that the sound will be zero sound… At the end of the superb video, the noteworthy “Heat Of The Moment” was also recorded as a bonus. This is a shot that seems to be of a distant audience, but it conveys the biggest listening point of the main live album with a “view”. Progressive rock lost even John Wetton after Chris Squire. Still, it is a 4-disc set that shares “now” with heroes who know only to spin music. Live at Pompano Beach Amphitheater, Pompano Beach, FL.
