Description

A compilation of out-of-print masterpieces that can be called “YES’s live chronicle” has been decided to be released. The masterpiece is the official box “THE WORD IS LIVE” released in 2005. YES has released many live albums over their long history, but this is a 3-disc set containing 26 songs and approximately 400 minutes of unreleased material that was not included on those albums. This compilation was a real shocker. Speaking of YES, one of the attractions is the musicality that changes drastically due to various member changes, but when it comes to full live albums, most of them are songs of the five members in their prime (John/Chris/Howe/Wakeman/White) or their revivals. It was formed (or when it had support). I didn’t feel the colorful changes as in the studio version. In such a situation, “THE WORD IS LIVE” appeared, condensing live performances from various eras. Some of the sound sources are known as bootlegs, and although they are broken down into individual songs, the diverse YES lineup has been condensed into the official master. Moreover, the contents are special. The original member era with Bill Bruford, the Patrick Moratz era, the precious “Tomato” number, “90125 YES” during the “Drama” era, etc… From March 1970, right after the recording of the 2nd album, to 1988 of the “BIG GENERATOR TOUR”, I was able to enjoy plenty of delicious treasures from the era. This work is a reprint of such an out-of-print compilation. Since the original is an official work, quality is not an issue, but what is important is “what kind of members/songs can we listen to?” Here, let’s organize the contents along with a brief history of YES. [DISC 1]・March 12, 1970 BBC: Then/For Everyone《Peter Banks → Steve Howe》・January 24, 1971 Gothenburg performance (2 songs) Astral Traveler/Everydays・July 31, 1971 London (4 songs) Yours Is No Disgrace / I’ve Seen All Good People / America / It’s Love 《Tony Kaye → Rick Wakeman / Bill Bruford → Alan White》 [DISC 2] 《Rick Wakeman →Patrick Moratz》・May 10, 1975 in London (1 song) Sweet Dreams・August 17, 1976 in Detroit (3 songs) Apocalypse/Siberian Khatru/Sound Chaser《Patrick Moratz → Rick Wakeman》・October 5, 1978 Inglewood performance (medley) Time and a Word/Long Distance Runaround/Survival/The Fish/Perpetual Change/Soon October 8, 1978 Oakland performance (2 songs) Future Times/Rejoice/Circus of Heaven・June 9 + 10, 1979 Chicago (3 songs) Hello Chicago/Roundabout [DISC 3]・October 8, 1978 Oakland performance (1 song)Heart of the Sunrise・June 10, 1979 Chicago (1 song) Song) Awaken《Anderson & Wakeman→Trevor Horn & Jeff Downs》・September 6, 1980 New York performance (3 songs) Go Through This/We Can Fly from Here/Tempus Fugit《Disbanded→“90125 YES” formed >> February 19, 1988 Houston performance (3 songs + α) Rhythm of Love/Hold On/Shoot High, Aim Low/Make It Easy/Owner of a Lonely Heart…and it goes like this. Although the details have been changed according to the flow of the music, the general outline is a bird’s-eye view of history in chronological order. Not only are the members delicious, but also the precious “Time and Words” number, “It’s Love” performed at Tony Kay’s (then) final performance, “Future Times/Rejoice” and “Circus of Heaven” from “Tomato”, “Go Through This”, “We Can Fly from Here”, “Tempus Fugit” from “Drama”, “Rhythm of Love”, “Shoot High, Aim Low”, etc. that could not be heard on “9012 LIVE”, etc…just from every corner. There’s so much to listen to. Moreover, not only are they rare, but each one is played with the band’s potential at the time, and the youthful vigor is dazzling, which is completely different from the rare song reprint live of later years. Even with the classic masterpiece “Awaken”, it is valuable to be able to listen to the performance of the 70’s potential in the official sound. Content that hits the delicious points as if it were a bootleg, and the highest quality by the official master. With this work as an opportunity, expectations were high for an excavated live album of each era, but that dream did not come true and “THE WORD IS LIVE” itself was discontinued. A 3-disc set that reprints such a fantastic masterpiece in its entirety.
