Description
This is a 4-disc set that includes a 4-hour live performance of the second day of the Kawasaki concert, which was held with a combination of Y&T, WINGER, and FIREHOUSE, which is irresistible for 80’s hard rock and heavy metal fans, with a super high-quality audience recording comparable to a soundboard recording. The recorder is the master taper who recorded the Makuhari performance of Kiss’ “Invades Japan” (4CD, Zoidac), and even Beatleg magazine wrote that it was “recorded with a clearly different dimension of high quality.” This time, too, the whole picture of the show is captured with a super sound that can be mistaken for a line recording. The recording is so amazing that you can’t help but be captivated and listen to it with deep emotion, thinking, “Is covert recording here?” It is a sound of another dimension that reproduces this moving event live. First up was FIREHOUSE. This is their first visit to Japan in 7 years, but C.J.’s clear high-tone vocals that do not feel any decline in the snare are still alive and well. The energetic vocal performance pulls the audience in. Bill Leverty’s technical guitar playing is also a masterpiece, and the band combination is also excellent, which will greatly excite fans of the past. In addition to slightly changing the song order compared to the first day, on this day they are playing “Oughta Be A Law” instead of “Don’t Walk Away”. CJ’s fluent Japanese MC is sandwiched between them, and the audience is entertained by a good tempo stage. Anyway, the musical tones are recorded on, so you will be overwhelmed by C.J.’s vocals that pop out into the speakers and Bill’s solo play. The sound balance is also good, and you can see how good the sound was on the day. Next up was WINGER, which now has Reb Beach, who is now the right-hand man of WHITESNAKE’s David Coverdale. Original member Paul Taylor, who had left the band, returned, and the original members of the time gathered together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut in 1988. The live started with the hard tune “Pull Me Under” from the album “KARMA” after the reunion. They presented the image of the band living in the present to the fans. After that, as previously announced, the main focus was on a complete reproduction of the 1st album “WINGER” released in 1988, which rose to 21st place in the US, and the set list was mainly songs from the 2nd album “IN THE HEART OF THE YOUNG” released in 1990, which also rose to 15th place in the US, and the audience was greatly entertained. The selling point of the band since its inception has been the gathering of members with a reputation for their performance skills, such as Steve Morse of current DEEP PURPLE, Rod Morgenstein who was active in DIXIE DREGS, Kip Winger from ALICE COOPER BAND, and Reb Beach, and their high level of performance has not changed even now after 25 years, and they will play a sharp and sharp performance that is not at all aged and has nothing to do with the words “mature” or “old”. Reb Beach, who is now playing a more modest style of music in line with WHITESNAKE’s musical style and playing a side guitar role to Doug Aldrich, plays technical and fast guitar in WINGER, making full use of unique and complex tapping and arm movements. Fans who only know Reb Beach’s playing after joining WHITESNAKE will be surprised to hear this. Side guitarist John Ross also takes many solos and plays technical solos that are just as good as Reb Beach’s. Next up was Y&T, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary since the band was formed. They performed a full range of songs from their first album “EARTHSHAKER” released in 1981 after changing their name to their latest album “FACEMELTER,” making this a live performance that could be called the best of Y&T. After an intro (SE) that was a compilation of many of the great songs that have been released so far, the opening started with the title song of the masterpiece “MEAN STREAK” from 1983, and then the set list was full of great songs such as “Black Tiger”, “Midnight in Tokyo (the new arrangement is interesting)”, “Rescue Me”, “Open Fire”, and “Forever”, which all fans could be satisfied with. Dave Meniketti is the only original member left, but the backing members, although unknown, are solidly supporting Dave Meniketti. Dave Meniketti’s singing and guitar playing are amazing. There is no player in the current hard rock/heavy metal scene, or even in the rock scene, who makes you feel the tears and soul in his guitar playing more than Dave Meniketti. Please listen to his playing on ballads such as “Winds of Change”, “I’ll Cry for You”, and “I Believe in You”. The guitar is sobbing like a lament. It is a truly passionate performance with emotion in every note. I would like rock fans who only know the names of Y&T and don’t know much about Dave Meniketti to listen to this. I think you will understand how great a player Dave Meniketti is. The sound alone is enough to convey the message. The performance of “Squeeze,” in which original member Phil Kennemore, who passed away suddenly just before their last visit to Japan in 2011, sang, was also a moving scene for fans. Y&T’s live performance lasted 100 minutes, longer than the original duration, and was a dignified performance worthy of closing the event. This was a wonderful event where three bands active in the 80s, when hard rock and heavy metal were at their most brilliant, played songs from that era and played their music without any signs of fading. It was also a moving event where the three bands showed fans how they continue to live in the present without being immersed in nostalgia. This is the definitive version of the must-listen live performance for hard rock and heavy metal fans of that era, recorded with such high quality sound that it can be said that there is nothing better.
