Description

Tradition and innovation, from hard bop to the new mainstream, all three performances in 1975, 1977, and 1978 by Woody Shaw, a talented trumpeter alongside Freddie Hubbard from the late 1960s to the 1970s, all in the highest quality. Introducing a dense 2-disc set! ! Woody Shaw performed live at the Ramada Inn in Schenectady, New York on November 11, 1975, at an unknown location and date in 1977, and at a club in Munich, Germany on June 22, 1978. Three performances from the heyday, when masterpieces such as “The Moon Train”, “Love Dance”, “Little Reds Fantasy”, and “Rosewood” were released, are all carefully mastered by the label to provide the highest quality sound. A 2-disc set recorded on the soundboard is now available! ! Live at the Ramada Inn in 1975, the quartet included Shaw, baritone/saxophone Nick Brignola, pianist Frank Stagnitta, and drummer Clifford Jarvis. With the sound, you can hear a wonderful version of “Freedom Jazz Dance” that is arguably the best. The electric piano that reminds me of Stagnitta’s Zawinul is great! The 1977 live show featured a quartet of pianist Muhal Richard Abrams, bassist Buster Williams, and drummer Victor Lewis, who performed songs such as “Oh Preserve,” “Authology,” “Autumn Leaves,” and “Stella by Starlight.” The stage was centered around standard numbers, such as “”, and the subsequent live performance in Munich in 1978 featured Shaw, saxophonist Carter Jefferson, who had been a colleague of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the early 1970s, and piano. The quintet consisting of honoree Alan Gumbs, bassist Clint Houston, and drummer Victor Lewis will perform on stage with a focus on new jazz-style original songs. The two performances in 1977 and 1978 let you hear the essence of straight-ahead 4-beat jazz. Woody Shaw has the image of being the most underrated musician in Japan. But I want you to listen to these three performances. In his home country, Shaw has earned the respect of many people as a talented trumpeter on par with Hubbard. Excellent technique throughout, full of singing spirit, and a phantasmagoric trumpet sound with varying speeds. No matter how difficult the song or ballad, whether it is someone else’s song or an original number, his deep understanding and originality of the song is unique and cannot be heard in any of his past performances. In contrast to Hubbard, who is often compared as a fellow technician, Shaw has an intellectual image of the new mainstream.
