This work includes “October 19, 2019 Tewkesbury Performance”. This is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packs the whole story. They are currently in the middle of their 50th anniversary tour. WISHBONE ASH debuted in 1970, but was formed in October 1969. Until the summer of 2019, it was a regular tour, but from October, we started again with the “50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR”. The Tewkesbury performance of this work was the 7th concert of the “British” tour. This work that recorded such a show is a truly beautiful audience recording. At our store, it is an original recording by a master who is well known as the “British Master”, and it is a superb piece that is rarely seen in his collection. Although it is a little different from the close contact feeling of a sound board, it is only slightly different. Although the reverberation of the snare sounds like a spatial recording, there is little else that can be felt, and the clarity and detail are super vivid. The intertwining of the twins is beautiful down to the individual nuances, and the bass has a subtle attack sound and a rich groove. The “Rose Center” where the scene took place is a small venue with less than 400 seats, but it is not a club but a movie theater. It was renovated in 2015 and is now compatible with digital screenings, probably thanks to its cutting-edge sound. It has a powerful core, a glossy sound, and plenty of response. It is a live album that is a sample of “audience-like beautiful sound”. The show drawn with that sound is a rain hail of famous songs that sum up a glorious career suitable for the 50th anniversary. Now, let’s organize the contents of the set. ●Early period (1970-1972: 7 songs)・WISHBONE ASH: Blind Eye・PILGRIMAGE: The Pilgrim/Jailbait・ARGUS: The King Will Come/Throw Down The Sword/Sometime World/Blowin’ Free ●Middle period (1978- 1987: 3 songs)・NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE: The Way Of The World・JUST TESTING: Living Proof・NOUVEAU CALLS: Real Guitars Have Wings ●Late period (1996-2020: 6 songs)・ILLUMINATIONS: Mountainside/Tales Of The Wise・BONA FIDE: Enigma・POWER OF ETERNITY: In Crisis・BLUE HORIZON: Deep Blues・COAT OF ARMS: We Stand As One…and so on. I have chosen the original members as the “early period,” the Rory Wisefield era and reorganization period as the “middle period,” and the period after Andy Powell took over as the “late period.” Of course, the largest volume is the iconic work “ARGUS”, but it is by no means the only one. It is easy to see that he has concentrated not only the early period, but also the middle and later periods, and includes masterpieces born from every corner of his long history. Surprising selections such as “Real Guitars Have Wings”, “Mountainside” and “Tales Of The Wise” also catch the ear, but beyond that are “Enigma” and “We Stand As One”. The former is a song from 2002’s “BONA FIDE” that was played for the first time on the 50th anniversary tour, and the latter is a new song from “COAT OF ARMS” scheduled to be released next year. And “The Way Of The World”. The second part of the album was a long song, 9 and a half minutes long, but in this work, the scale is further increased, and you can listen to a dramatic performance that lasts over 12 minutes. Along with DEEP PURPLE and URIAH HEEP, WISHBONE ASH is a famous British band loved by both HR fans and progressive rock fans. It is a masterpiece that allows you to experience its 50 years of progress with the finest sound. Nowadays, twin lead rock bands are overflowing all over the world, but WISHBONE ASH is the founder and still no one surpasses them. This work is evidence of that sound. A live album where you can enjoy the ever-deepening and refined “twin beauty” to its fullest.
