Description
This is a session collection of the album “London Town” released by Wings in 1978. Speaking of London Town, the black-and-white photo of the three Wings members playing court on the river with London Bridge in the background gives an image of the damp and changeable weather in London, but the actual recording began at Abbey Road Studios. , which was then recorded on a sunny, sunny day offshore in the Virgin Islands. Although they had already left the band at the time of its release, Wings Over America members Joe English and Jimmy McCulloch also participated in the recording, and the album’s position can be said to be an extension of that. After all, the image of the jacket, the fact that the title song was a ballad rather than a rock number, and the fact that there was no tour accompanying this album, it is undeniable that the album has a relatively low-key impression, but the live performance on stage is undeniable. Creating an album that does not assume performance is something that gives you a good feel of Paul’s carefully crafted work. The album includes famous songs such as the beautiful “London Town at Twilight,” the light-hearted “Seine Cafe Terrace,” and “Girlfriend,” which was written for Michael Jackson. There was also “Farewell Toki,” which was performed live on the UK tour the following year, and “Happy Premonition,” a hit song that is still expected to be performed on stage. This is an album wrapped in such an atmosphere. Also, during this period, “Dream Traveler”, which had more success than the Beatles’ “She Loves You” in the UK, was also born from this session. This work is the title that compiles the session sound source of such album “London Town”. Disc 1 contains a test press acetate sound source for the album. It seems to be in a near-complete stage, and it is almost a release version, but I hope you will listen and compare the differences. Above all, the vivid sound that is unique to acetate, and the sense of realism that makes you feel like you are playing right in front of your eyes, is wonderful. From disc 2, it will be exactly a session sound source. “I Keep On Believing” is an unreleased song, but its special feature is that it is a medley with “Love Awake”. Although it is a medley, it feels a bit abrupt and unnatural, and when it was included on the album “Back to the Egg” it was a medley with another song. In any case, it can be seen that “Love Awake” is not an independent song, but was originally intended to compose a medley. And the second half is a session sound source that was finally moved to the Virgin Islands. It feels like the song was added at a slightly more advanced stage than the demo, and it can be seen that Paul’s vocals are the main one, and the chorus etc. are still being worked on. It’s still in the rough stages, but it’s still in the process of being refined and reaching its final form. Songs such as “With A Little Luck” are simply performed, with no chorus at all, and Paul sings by himself, very carefully, and it’s hard to imagine how to add accents to his singing. I guess I’ll decide from now on. Still, the beauty of the melody is not just a premonition of happiness, but a premonition of a masterpiece, which is clearly conveyed even in this rough version. Disc 3 will be the session sound source after returning to London again. Contains songs such as “Nostalgia Nostalgia,” which is sung in a light scat style, and unreleased songs “After You’ve Gone” and “Boil Crisis.” If anything, it’s a track that sounds like Paul was recording it at home using a rhythm machine in the studio. And “Yume no Tabijin” is played by tentatively using the keyboard to play that characteristic bagpipe part. The second half includes three remixes of “Seaside to B-Side” recorded at the same time, with Linda taking vocals. The title includes the session for the album “London Town”. This is the latest work in the session series, packed tightly over three discs, including sessions from the same period. DISC ONE TEST PRESSING ACETATES 1978 01. London Town 02.
