Description
This release is a direct transfer from the cassette master of Wilson Pickett’s representative soundboard live rebroadcast. Wilson Pickett’s deep and rough vocal style supported the Falcons (Stones covered If You Need Me), and after leaving the Falcons, he supported the soul scene in the 60s as a solo artist, and is a particularly important figure when talking about the genre of Southern Soul. All of the hit songs that were loved by soul fans, such as In The Midnight Hours, Land Of 1000 Dancers, Mustang Sully, and Funky Broadway, are performed on this album. Wilson Pickett eventually left Detroit due to being pushed by Motown’s Northern Soul, and Southern Soul was at its peak in the 60s, but with the trend of the times when it was replaced by urban sounds like Motown’s Northern Soul and the death of Otis Redding, this gospel-based deep style of Southern Soul was no longer called upon in the music scene in the 70s. However, this live performance was in 1968, which could be said to be the peak of Wilson Pickett’s career, and the overwhelmingly powerful stage performance of the passionate Wilson Pickett is the best. When you listen to the aforementioned hit songs, which are so famous that they have been covered in various ways, in the format of a typical soul show, you can clearly hear the unique and powerful vocal style of Wilson. This, this is deep soul. The opening instrumental is also a reflection of the era, with a heavy sound that sounds like Jimi Hendrix’s sound with horns added, and an instrumental version of Am I The Same Girl, covered by Swing Out Sisters, also pops out.
