Description
From the label that continues to release items that surprise fans, a treasured live sound source following TYGERS OF PAN TANG is now available. This time, WILD HORSES, who only came to Japan once in 1980, performed in Tokyo! This is a treasured high-quality live recording that will make even die-hard British rock fans sigh, “I can’t believe I can listen to their recordings from their visit to Japan!” WILD HORSES is a band formed in 1978 by former RAINBOW bassist Jimmy Bain with Brian Robertson, who left THIN LIZZY. Before joining RAINBOW, Jimmy was acquainted with the members of THIN LIZZY through their live performances at London’s Marquee Club, and even collaborated with Phil Lynott and Gary Moore on their solos. Immediately after they left their respective bands, there was a natural flow of forming bands (from 1978 to the middle of 1980, Neil Carter, known for his work with Gary Moore, was also included. ). After forming the band, they focused on live performances, but released their first album “WILD HORSES” in 1980 and “STAND YOUR GROUND” the following year in 1981. They had a strong presence in the N.W.O.B.H.M. movement in 1980, and were introduced in Japan as one of the “Four Kings of N.W.O.B.H.M.” along with IRON MAIDEN, DEF LEPPARD, and GIRL. Both of them are actively performing live mainly at clubs in the UK, and their lively live performances include THIN LIZZY members such as Phil and Scott Gorham, and even Michael Schenker jumping in on stage. Ta. However, the band was unable to break out, and Robertson’s participation in MOTORHEAD led to their discontinuation in 1982 (it is said that this was also due to their failure to expand into the United States). Therefore, the only confirmed live sound source is the London performance in December 1979, where the aforementioned Phil and Michael jumped in. Compared to their presence, they are a band that only those in the know know about the content of their live shows. They held their first and last Japan tour in October 1980, when the band was at its peak. A total of four performances were held in Tokyo’s Shibuya Public Hall on October 28th, followed by Nagoya and Osaka, but the live tapes are completely unknown, except for the Osaka performance that exists among some traders. I was in a situation where I wasn’t. Miracle Man was the one who captured the rare Tokyo performance of his visit to Japan, which can be said to be a vision! In this work, you can enjoy the performance at Nakano Sun Plaza on October 29th, which is the second performance in Japan, with the best audience source, which is completely different, like a line sound source! Jimmy was from RAINBOW, and Robertson was from THIN LIZZY, each of whom had idol-like popularity. Therefore, even on this visit to Japan, it was impressive to hear the cheers of female fans flying around from the opening. However, at this live show, there was an incident where equipment trouble occurred at the opening, and the live performance did not start easily. This recording is recorded with an ultra-clear sound image from this scene where Jimmy connects the sudden accident with MC mixed with Japanese and soothes the fans. After that, the live started with “Dealer”. It wasn’t a very exciting start as the event had to be rescheduled due to some trouble, but the audience was able to listen carefully to the band’s performance in a calm atmosphere (the band’s songs had not fully penetrated the fans). It also depends on the situation). For this reason, there are no unnecessary cheers or noises during the performance, allowing the listener to experience the direct feeling of the musical sound with the realism of hearing it right in front of their eyes. The set list includes almost everything from the 1st album, the numbers that were played in advance from the 2nd album, and songs that were only played live at that time, giving the impression that you are listening to the band’s best album live. Since Robertson, who has a blues background, and Jimmy, who has a reputation for songwriting ranging from catchy songs to hard rock, have teamed up, the songs are all high quality and full of British flavor. “Woman” and “Street Girl” have comfortable grooves, “No Strings Attached” and “Criminal Tendencies” have a THIN LIZZY-like development with a pop taste, and “Flyaway” has a melodious and generous song. All are worth listening to. Even for listeners who don’t know the take on the album, those who recognize the names of RAINBOW’s Jimmy and LIZZY’s Robertson will definitely enjoy it. Jimmy is not only the bassist but also the main vocalist, and is very active throughout the live performance. Not only him, but Robertson also performs vocals on “Blackmail.” LIZZY’s fans will be grinning as the singing is somewhat reminiscent of Phil Lynott (it’s very interesting to think that later John Sykes also sang like Phil). The audience, which was a little quiet in the first half, became excited as the live progressed, and in the middle of “Face Down” it became very exciting. This “Face Down” and the following “The Rapist” are rock numbers that could easily become THIN LIZZY if Phil sings them, and listeners will enjoy them easily. The main part of the set list ended with “The Kid”, and the encore began with “I’ll Give You Love”. From the speedy arrangement of “Going Down” to “Saturday Night,” which gets the venue involved and creates a fun mood, the live performance is a continuous listen! Who would have ever imagined that WILD HORSES, where the existence of live sound sources itself is almost unknown, would have the sound source of the performance in Japan, an excellent audience sound that can be said to be the best! ? This work is a live recording that truly shows the richness of the rock scene around 1980. Live at Sun Plaza, Tokyo, Japan 29th October 1980 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) (77:52) 1.
