Description
The legendary rare compilation “WHO’S MISSING”. The original CD compiled by the editor himself will be released. In addition to the compilation albums and original albums produced by charismatic engineers, THE WHO discography has produced various compilation albums, and “WHO’S MISSING” is a piece that truly deserves to be called a masterpiece. This compilation was released in November 1985, when the band was still fresh from their reunion at “LIVE AID”, but it stood out from the many greatest hits. After all, it reprinted many of the precious B-side songs from their early singles, and even unearthed unreleased songs from the time of their debut. It was not just a promotional bonus for famous songs, but a rare song collection that was still rare at the time. Many fans heard it for the first time on this album, and it caused a buzz comparable to the original album. Moreover, it was not just rare. Rare track collections are often thought of as “leftover trash”, but this work was different. In the first place, THE WHO itself had few albums compared to their career history, and many of their masterpieces were limited to singles, and the B-sides were by no means filler songs. Furthermore, this work was a carefully selected selection, and the composition was calculated to have a tempo rather than a mechanical chronological order. As a musical work, it was a very complete piece. The reason why “WHO’S MISSING” became such a masterpiece was solely due to the deep knowledge and love of the editor. He grasped every corner of THE WHO’s discography, traced back the hidden treasure takes to the master tapes, and reprinted them with a level of perfection comparable to the original album. And the person who carried out this feat was Steve Hoffman. Yes, that charismatic engineer who made his name known to the world with the high-quality labels “Audio Fidelity” and “DCC Compact Classics”. “WHO’S MISSING” is one of his early works, and it is a work of his soul that he not only mastered but also planned and composed (by the way, the sequel “TWO’S MISSING” was unrelated to Hoffman). This precious original CD work, completed by the charisma himself, is the CD version of such a masterpiece compilation. It is a meticulous reprint of the original release version in 1985. The CD version of “WHO’S MISSING” is valuable in the first place. The original CD was a limited edition only in the UK and North America, and was not released in Japan, and it was ignored even during the subsequent CD boom. At the time, many people knew “WHO’S MISSING” on imported LPs, but they were unable to listen to it since the CD era began. In 2011, the sequel “TWO’S MISSING” was released as a 2-CD set with additional tracks and paper jackets, but this also had its pros and cons. Although the increase in volume is an upgrade as a collection of rare tracks, the unique feel of “WHO’S MISSING” is diminished. The sequel, “TWO’S MISSING,” and the additional tracks are unrelated to Hoffman, so they are just “a collection of ordinary leftovers with a lot of volume.” Due to these circumstances, only the original release of “WHO’S MISSING” was released on CD with its original beauty and perfection. Moreover, the original CD was mastered by Steve Hoffman himself, who is responsible for planning and editing. The content and sound were completed by the charismatic man himself. To be even more nit-picky, there are “US pressings” and “Japanese pressings” of the original CD. As mentioned above, there was no Japanese release of “WHO’S MISSING,” but in the 1980s, there were only a handful of CD pressing plants worldwide, and even overseas versions were pressed at Japanese plants. And it is generally accepted that Japanese plants have the highest precision and sound quality for those early CDs. In order to reach the pinnacle of this work, we sought out and reprinted the “Japanese pressings” CD. “WHO’S MISSING” is a masterpiece compilation that rivals the original album. The “feel of the work” is on a different level to compilations put together haphazardly by record company staff, and even today, when reprint archives have progressed, it has not lost any of its luster. This work is an original CD that was mastered by Steve Hoffman, who planned and compiled it. This is truly the “real thing.” Taken from the original US CD (MCAD-31221) 1. Shout And Shimmy 2.
