Description

The stereo soundboard for the phantom live album from the 1969 US tour, which Pete Townshend burned due to his anger. As I mentioned in the previous release, the sound sources that barely escaped the disaster are scattered and are currently difficult to obtain. This week, as a sequel to the restoration series by “Prof. Stoned”, who has taken action to change this situation, we will release a recording made at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. As you may recognize, the original was the nostalgic “ELECTRIC FACTORY 1969”. “Prof. Stoned” has remastered it based on this. The original was a stereo soundboard recording of excellent quality, but as expected of “Prof. Stoned”, the quality is so outstanding that it is no longer inferior to the official release. I think everyone was blown away by the shocking quality of the previous “STONY BROOK 1969 SOUNDBOARD” and “FILLMORE EAST 1969 SOUNDBOARD”, but the sound quality of this album is truly amazing and leaves you speechless. If the live album had been released from the fall 1969 tour as planned, The Who’s history might have been completely different… The sound quality has been polished in a more natural way by this remaster, so much so that you can’t help but think that. Like those two titles, the recording itself is also incomplete this time. After the opening two songs, the recording jumps to the first half of the “TOMMY” part at once, which suggests that the original intention was to make an album like a “live version of “TOMMY”. This is especially true since the later “LIVE AT LEEDS” did not include the “TOMMY” part at all. Despite the recording condition, it is wonderful that the close-up sense of realism is conveyed firmly. The Who were promoted to larger venues in the US the following year due to the huge success of “TOMMY”, but at this point they were happy to perform at public hall-class venues such as the Fillmore where their previous album was released and the Electric Factory. The experience of seeing The Who at their peak in such an intimate venue, and even seeing “TOMMY” in real time, was something that I would like to express in words. “Prof. Stoned” also added two bonus songs with unknown recording data this time, which are live takes from the US in the fall compiled from two titles, “WHO IS TOMMY?” and “LIVE AT LEEDS REJECTS”. Although the latter was better in terms of sound quality, the MC before the performance was longer on the former, so “Prof. Stoned”‘s unique attention to detail in connecting the two exploded here as well. In addition, the performance and sound quality were excellent. And above all, The Who’s performance, which was so explosive that it made me forget the incomplete recording state, was still alive and well on this day. As mentioned earlier, the enthusiasm of the audience’s reaction to the “TOMMY” part was captured on this day, which seemed to have made the already high-tension performance even more out of control. In fact, when you see the heated performance of the “TOMMY” part here, you might be mistaken into thinking that even Woodstock was a rehearsal. This “TOMMY” part alone is enough to guarantee satisfaction, but the performance of “My Generation”, which was recorded towards the end of the live performance, was also spectacular. The performance of “STONY BROOK 1969 SOUNDBOARD” was also explosive, but the explosion from a different development on this day was also spectacular. The Who at this time were truly transformative. Even in the later “LIVE AT LEEDS”, the performance of “My Generation” was so intense that it took up most of one side of the album, but I wonder if Pete had ordered the recording of the song in 1969 to capture the explosion and dynamism of the song on record. This is the third album by “Prof. Stoned” following the previous two, remastered from the stereo soundboard recording in the fall of 1969, and it is once again amazing.
