Description

The Who’s final US tour, “SONG IS OVER,” kicked off in August. This latest video captures the performance at the Prudential Center in Newark on August 19, the second night of the tour. First and foremost, the image quality is crystal clear. The full-length close-ups offer a stunning, never-ending stream of footage from the audience. The audio, with its expansive stereo sound, is a testament to the advances made by smartphones. Speaking of the latest “SONG IS OVER” tour, the superb footage from a month ago, “MILANO 2025,” is still fresh in our minds. Following their European dates, the band’s performance clearly demonstrates a new level of power in this video. Before starting “Who Are You,” Pete said, “The first time I came here was to see Bruce Springsteen in the ’80s,” eliciting a chorus of blues cheers from the audience. The atmosphere was incredibly harmonious. They also started “Behind Blue Eyes,” but Roger missed the timing and had to start again. Even then, the atmosphere onstage remained harmonious, and Pete even resumed the performance with a wry smile. Even more noteworthy was the inclusion of a new song, “Going Mobile.” With the tour title “Song Is Over” and the setlist heavily influenced by the album “WHO’S NEXT,” it made sense to include another track from the same album. Pete’s younger brother, Simon, takes the lead vocals here, and while the repertoire he originally sang on Roger’s solo tours adds a Who-esque touch to the performance, the performance is already rock solid. Furthermore, Scott DeVores, who replaced Zak Starkey as drummer, was familiar with this song from his time on tour with Roger, making it clear from the video that this is a repertoire that will truly shine onstage. Above all, the up-tempo song was extremely effective in preventing any lulls during the show. The encore structure was also changed, with the tour’s title song, “Song Is Over,” moved to the front of the finale. The band members were introduced, and the closing song, “Tea & Theatre,” performed by Roger and Pete, seemed like a perfect ending, and watching the video, it seems like a great choice. This latest live video captures The Who, firing on all cylinders one month after the start of their farewell tour, in crystal-clear quality, not only for their powerful performance throughout, but also for the stunning live performance of “Going Mobile” and the aforementioned finale!
