Description

This is a superb stereo soundboard source from October 25th, the second day of the Oakland, California performance, which was a two-day consecutive performance from the middle of the 1982 Farewell Tour. It is recorded with great clarity, stereo separation, and the best mix balance, which shows that it was clearly recorded with the official release in mind. Unfortunately, seven songs played at the end of the concert, Long Live Rock, Won’t Get Fooled Again, encore Athena, Young Man Blues, Twist And Shout, Naked Eye, and Summertime Blues, are not included (probably because the recording was stopped at the console desk for some reason). However! This board has more than enough benefits to make up for that! The rehearsal and sound check sound source from the Landover on September 21st, about a month before, is also recorded on Disc 2 with a clear soundboard. Since their rehearsal recordings have never been available underground, this is a rare and precious rehearsal and sound check of The Who. There are many precious scenes, such as Pete’s particularly fond number, Eminence Front, being checked over and over again, and Cook’s Country, which was never performed on stage at a concert, from their last album “It’s Hard”. I think you can understand the value of this board just by listening to this recording. In the main stage, My Generation starts with a fade-in, there is a cut at 4:22 in Drowned, and along with the above-mentioned unrecorded parts, there are some defects due to the original master at the time, but please forgive us (the noise at 2:39 at 5:15 is the sound of Roger dropping the microphone, not a problem), but The Who’s performance itself is a tremendous level that is in no way inferior to the New Jersey and Portland performances, and the sound quality of this board is of high quality that conveys it realistically. Either way, if you’re a die-hard fan of The Who, this is a must-have. Live at Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA. USA 25th October 1982 STEREO SBD Rehearsals at Capital Center, Landover, MD.
