Description

WHITESNAKE entered a new chapter in 1982, welcoming the late Cozy Powell and Mel Galley. A historical treasured original recording that conveys the scene is now available. This work was recorded at “Leicester Performance on December 23, 1982”. This is an exquisite audience recording. The White Snake has changed its appearance in various ways depending on the period, but there has never been a time when it was as full of unique charm as it was in 1982/1983. In fact, he got the cozy that he invited before Ian Paice, and while he is powerfully breaking out, he also blends the old-fashioned white snake style of the originators Mickey Moody and Jon Lord. While remaining strictly within the context of blues rock, they put on an extremely dynamic and exciting show. You can enjoy their live performance with masterpieces such as the best sound board & professional shot “LIVE… IN THE WEST OF THE RHINE” and official reprints “MONSTERS OF ROCK 1983” and “DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1983”, but those All are from the middle and late period. The record that started in 1982 was an endangered species, and only “COMPLETE NEWCASTLE TAPES” was known. This work is a new standard live album that conveys the dawn of 1982. In order to understand such circumstances, let’s first check the show’s position from the overall picture of “SAINTS & SINNERS TOUR”. 1982《“SAINTS & SINNERS” released on November 25》・December 10-31: Europe #1a (14 performances) ←★This work is here★ 1983・January 1-31: Europe # 1b (18 performances) February 7th-23rd: Japan (10 performances) ← “DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1983” March 19th: West German TV appearance ← “LIVE… IN THE WEST OF THE RHINE” 《April “SLIDE IT IN” production begins] August 14th – September 6th: Europe #2 (11 performances) ← “MONSTERS OF ROCK 1983” This is WHITESNAKE in 1982/1983. In this way, after the performance in Japan, the best soundboard / professional shot was left at each period, but in the early days it was thin. In the first place, the new lineup will not start until December, and there will only be 14 performances of “Europe #1a” this year. The Leicester performance of this work was the 10th concert. This work, which records such a show, is a masterpiece that is strangely unknown until now. After all, this work was recorded by the master craftsman “Crazy S.”. His heyday was around 1986, but this work is also a wonderful masterpiece even though it was much earlier than that. What surprises me most is the strong core and beautiful sound. It is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, and the sense of distance is reasonable, but the core that reaches straight to your hand is fresh and beautiful in detail. I can see that the entire venue is buzzing, but for some reason it feels like a distant rumble, and it doesn’t come between me and the fresh performance sound. Mr. “Crazy S.” would later produce many famous recordings that would leave his name in history, but as of 1982, his talent had already blossomed…This work is proof of that sound. With such a beautiful sound, a group of classic SNAKE songs that have been powerfully revived are delicious. This is also a good opportunity to organize the contents of the set.・LOVE HUNTER (2 songs): Walking in the Shadow of the Blues/Lovehunter ・READY AN’ WILLING (2 songs): Ready an’ Willing/Fool For Your Loving ・COME AN’ GET IT (2 songs): Don’t Break My Heart Again/Wine, Women an’ Song・SAINTS & SINNERS (3 songs): Rough an’ Ready/Here I Go Again/Crying in the Rain・Others: Soldier Of Fortune/Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City/Thank You…and it goes like this. This lineup is known for the masterpiece “SLIDE IT IN”, but the new song was first performed after “Europe #2”. Here you can find a well-balanced concentration of classic SNAKE’s famous songs. And the performance is just wonderful. All songs are tough and powerful. It’s different from the delicacy of classic SNAKE, but the dynamism and groove are further enhanced, and it’s juicy and bluesy. It’s clearly a world apart from the inorganic mechanical metallic SNAKE, even though it’s at full power. In the first place, Cozy and Mel (his chorus is superb!) were invited before the formation of the classic SNAKE band, and Colin Hodgkinson is also an old friend who has performed with Mickey Moody since the 1960s. Although it happened to be born after the classic SNAKE, this ensemble may have been faithful to the blueprint from when WHITESNAKE was formed. What’s more, this work’s fresh start and momentum are dazzling. As mentioned above, this work is the 10th performance of the tour, and even though the engine is warming up, there is still a long way to go due to tour fatigue. Even though they have a grasp of each other’s breathing, there is a freshness that overflows from the fact that they do not fully know each other’s techniques, and yet, as they are full of masters, they have already achieved an impenetrable ensemble. There is also a sense of playfulness in the solos and oblises, and this is a show that is open to experimenting more and more. WHITESNAKE from 1982/1983 is generally considered to be the “precursor of metal,” but in fact, both new life and origins are alive in their live performances. This is a historical masterpiece in which a young master put all his skills into recording a live performance that depicts the best set of classic SNAKE with such an ensemble. Rich British hard rock that pursues “powerful and bluesy” but doesn’t venture into metal.
