Description

Even in WHITESNAKE’s long history of over 30 years, the year in 1978, right after the band’s inception, was the year when they were especially passionate and let you hear the rich flavor of blues with a rich sound. When David Coverdale developed his activities from solo to band, he truly performed “the music he wanted to make” with fiery enthusiasm and ambition. In that ’78 live, various wonderful live sound sources are known, including the official live work “LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH ODEON”. Among them, “VINTAGE COLLECTION 1978”, which is a collection of line sources from the same year, is now an indispensable book for understanding early WHITESNAKE. Along with that “VINTAGE COLLECTION 1978”, this work “STEAL THE NIGHT” is the sound source that fans must listen to. This work is from the autumn 1978 UK tour that WHITESNAKE conducted immediately after announcing “TROUBLE”, and is based on the performance at Victoria Hall in Henley, Staffordshire on November 7th, using an ultra-high-quality stereo sound board leaked by related parties. It is recorded as a recording. Among the sound sources on the same day was “MUST BE GYPSY IN ME”, which was once released and surprised fans greatly. This work is a sound created directly from that master cassette. The previous releases had a tasteful sound with a slightly muffled texture that gave an analog-like tone, but this version retains its “analog-likeness” in a good sense, but a clearer sound image that has a better outlook is a major feature. Furthermore, the (slight) deterioration of the material that was a concern in the previous releases has been largely resolved, and it is no exaggeration to say that the listening response exceeds the official work “LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH ODEON” mentioned above! This is the strength of Master Quality. You can enjoy the lively live of 1978 in a real, direct way that makes you feel like you have it all to yourself! Like the previous releases, this work also started with a sound check before the performance on the same day. Centered around the drums, the vocal microphone and guitar explode with incredible closeness. The real sound will be further refined in the main live performance! “Come On”, which had previously started with a fade-in, suddenly starts without a fade-in from the opening, and everyone who listens to it will be in agony! Coverdale’s singing is as vivid as his breathing, Barney and Mickey’s guitars are so expressive that you can almost see their faces, and the musical sounds mixed according to the official music are the best. “Might Just Take Your Life” and “Lie Down”, in which Jon Lord bursts out with his playing immediately after joining the group, are wonderful enough to be worthy of the honorific title of “Maestro.” Also, in these songs, Bernie is very active not only on the guitar but also on vocals. You can listen to plenty of ensembles from the era that were truly band-like. Following “Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City” and “Trouble”, led by Mickey’s solo, “Steal Away”, which has not been recorded officially live, explodes. The moving “Mistreated”, which lasts over 10 minutes, is sure to deeply disturb the listener’s heart! In the instrumental jam “Belgian Tom’s Hat Trick,” Barney and Mickey’s twin leads let you enjoy the harmonious play, and John’s solo also entertains with a surprising thunderous sound. The passionate play of “Take Me With You”, which pours in with furious force, is sure to excite not only the stage and the audience, but also the listeners! Previous releases were released as a 2-disc set, but this work is a 1-CD item packed with sounds up to the limit of 80 minutes, including the encore songs “Rock Me Ba, by” and “Breakdown / Whitesnake Boogie”. (Of course, there are no sounds or performances that have been cut from the previously released content!) “VINTAGE COLLECTION 1978,” a compilation of line sound sources from the same period, was also wonderful, but I can’t find anything that lets you listen to the entire WHITESNAKE live show from this period with such sound quality and performance! For WHITESNAKE fans around the world, this work is literally a masterpiece. Live at Victoria Hall, Hanley, Staffordshire, UK 7th November 1978 STEREO SBD(Upgrade: from Original Masters) 1.
