Description

Even in the John Sykes era, the one and only great soundboard album is reprinted with the latest remaster! Of course, there are many soundboards from the Sykes era, such as SUPER ROCK’84, Spokane performance, ROCK IN RIO, etc., but this work is decisively different from all of them. It is a great decision board of “6 people with John Sykes”! This work contains “Glasgow performance on March 1, 1984”. This show was broadcast on FM and is a classic known as the only stereo soundboard with 6 people. Since ancient times, it has produced many pre-releases such as “NO HIBERNATION” and “GAMBLER COME BACK”, and has been upgraded repeatedly over a long history. And this work is the latest decision board. It is the highest peak version of the same title work “DEFINITIVE GLASGOW 1984”, which was shocked with “Finally official grade!”, brushed up with the latest remaster. [What is “6 people with Sykes”? Before we move on to the interesting content, let’s take a look at why this work is unique and why the “6-piece formation with Sykes” is so special. Let’s start with a basic review… Sykes and Neil Murray joined WHITESNAKE, who solidified their new lineup in December 1983, and released “SLIDE IT IN (UK MIX)” by the old members in January 1984. At the same time, Sykes and Murray were sent to the United States to produce “SLIDE IT IN (US REMIX)”. In addition to the rush schedule of only 10 days (!), Keith Olsen, who was in charge of the remix, suddenly fell ill, so Sykes’ complete replacement was not realized. The other members remained in the UK, and when “a certain sound was needed” for drums and keyboards, a synthesizer (one theory is Bill Cuomo) was used instead. The day after the remix work, photo sessions, TV mime appearances, and tour rehearsals began, and the tour started in mid-February. Although the “SLIDE IT IN” tour was a single world tour, the itinerary had the following three lineups. ●February 17-April 5, 1984: 6-person formation: Mel Galley included (28 performances) ●April 8-16, 1984: 5-person formation: Galley dropped out due to injury (6 performances) ●June 30, 1984-November 19, 1985: 4-person formation: Jon Lord left (74 performances) In just one year, they were forced to make a subtraction change like GENESIS. And as you can see from the number of performances, most of them were in the “4-person formation” era. The only sound board with a “6-person formation” was the Glasgow performance. [The latest remaster revives the big decision board] Well, this work is the best of such a unique sound board. The master that was released as “DEFINITIVE GLASGOW 1984” has been further polished by remastering. The previous work was highly praised, with people saying, “It’s incomparable to what’s already out there!” and “It should be released officially,” but it was so popular that it quickly sold out and went out of print. So it’s been reissued here. And the theme of this mastering was not only “ultimate form” but also “three-dimensionality.” The appeal of the “six-person formation” is the twin guitars of Sykes and Mel, so we aimed for a sound that makes the distribution and intertwining stand out even more vividly. As a result, even in parts of the previous work where you would say, “I know it’s two, but…”, you can clearly see the division of labor. Of course, not only the guitar but also the bass line stands out clearly from the drums, and Coverdale’s singing voice and Mel’s chorus are beautifully colored. Not only is it an official-class sound, but it is a sound that allows you to enjoy the dynamism of this large group of “six people” to the fullest. [The original Sykes version of “SLIDE IT IN”!?] The sound depicted makes you think, “This is what the original US version of “SLIDE IT IN” was supposed to be like.” As mentioned above, “SLIDE IT IN (US REMIX)” was made with extremely unnatural work, and it was a half-baked product with a large amount of Mickey Moody’s guitar remaining. However, the version you can hear in this work is an arrangement that was put together with Sykes from the beginning. In other words, this work is also the only line recording that conveys “the new six-person “SLIDE IT IN”. In fact, in “US REMIX”, Murray’s bass, which had to be played quietly in order to fit into the finished product, has regained its original brilliance, and the distribution of the twin guitars has been fully considered with Sykes’ individuality. Although there are some songs where Galley takes a solo, most of the leads are Sykes. Perhaps they were aiming for a band with a clear division of roles between rhythm and lead guitar like SCORPIONS and AC/DC. If Keith Olsen had not suddenly fallen ill, “US REMIX” would have been like this… Such a clear intention is drawn on the official sound board. In addition, “Here I Go Again” and “Fool For Your Loving”, which can’t be heard on the CD included with the official DVD “LIVE IN ’84”, are also delicious. Yes, you can hear the super confident Sykes version, which was later remade with guitars by Adrian Vandenberg and Steve Vai, on the soundboard! In “Here I Go Again”, Galley and Sykes twin-trace the original solo, and in “Fool For Your Loving”, they share it, so it’s not a solo by Sykes alone. However, there are plenty of Sykes-like obbligatos here and there. “After all, Sykes was destined to join the White Snake…” The sense of convincing is explosive. Sykes’ joining was the biggest change in the history of WHITESNAKE. This is a record that captures that moment and allows you to hear the dream ensemble that was not realized on the official album. The “four-person” group had a number of official videos and soundboards, while the “five-person” group had official television footage from Stockholm. This is the highest-level live album of the only group that was missing, the “six-person” group. The life of this work lies in the rare lineup and the highest-quality soundboard, but the more you know the history, the more it shines. This is a super important work that should be called the “real Sykes version of SLIDE IT IN” and the “missing link to SERPENCE ALBUS”. Here is a magnificent comeback!
