Description

The 1983 White Snake was revived in a powerful way, featuring the late Cozy Powell and Mel Galley. A shocking original recording that conveys the Japanese performance is newly discovered. What was recorded in the shock master was the “February 8, 1983: Hokkaido Welfare Pension Hall” performance. It is the best audience recording that captures the whole picture. WHITESNAKE has been extremely popular since their first visit to Japan, but with the addition of Koji, their popularity in Japan reached its peak. At our store, we have archived many masterpieces. First of all, let’s look back at the dates back then and organize the collection.・February 7th: Hokkaido Employees’ Pension Center ・February 8th: Hokkaido Employees’ Pension Center ←★This work★ ・February 10th: Fukushima Cultural Center ・February 12th “MILITARY GARRISON (Utsunomiya)” ・February 14th February 15th: “ULTIMATE SIN (Osaka)”, February 16th: Kyoto Kaikan, February 18th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall, February 21st: “MILITARY GARRISON (Nagoya)”・February 22nd “DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1983” ・February 23rd “PYTHON MAGNUM” *Note: Only representative works are shown on each day. A total of 11 performances. Shiroja has visited Japan 15 times so far, and the average is 7.4 performances. The 11 performances are the second highest number of performances in history after the 1997 goodbye tour, and of course the highest in the blues rock era. The big stage Nippon Budokan is also set, and you can clearly see how popular it was at the time. The Japan tour will start from Hokkaido. This work was a concert that was the second performance. This work recorded at such a show is a truly shocking audience recording. First of all, it is a full show recording. As a matter of fact, a record of this show has been around for some time, but it is an incomplete version in which “Love Hunter” and each member’s solo time are largely omitted, perhaps in order to fit it onto one CD. In contrast, with this work you can enjoy the full show from before the performance to “We Wish You Well”. And what’s even more amazing is the sound. The CD was made from a master cassette that was given directly by the recording artist himself, and it is extremely neat! Although it does not have the close contact feeling of a sound board, the sound is moist and mellow, yet mysteriously does not hide details. The key is the thick core. The core of each instrument reaches your hand as if forcibly pushing through the sound of the hall, and the sound is vivid even with a sense of separation without clumping together. This tour is famous for the leaked soundboard of Nippon Budokan, but this work is not a mysterious mix where the rhythm guitar disappears, but every corner of the ensemble is detailed. Rather, it is a rare recording of the type where the ringing becomes the thickness of the sound and enhances the dynamism. What is depicted with such a sound is the full show that made Jon Lord call it “the No. 1 Japan tour ever.” This tour is a fixed set, so it’s a bit late, but it’s also a good opportunity, so let’s organize it. LOVEHUNTER (2 songs)・Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues/Love Hunter READY AN’ WILLING (2 songs)・Ready An’ Willing/Fool For Your Loving COME AN’ GET IT (2 songs)・Don’t Break My Heart Again/Wine, Women An’ Song SAINTS & SINNERS (3 songs)・Rough An’ Ready/Here I Go Again/Crying In The Rain Others (3 songs + α)・Soldier Of Fortune/Everyone’s Solo Time/(Ain’t No Love) In The Heart Of The City/Thank You…and it goes like this. A well-balanced selection of classic Snake masterpieces from “LOVEHUNTER” to “SAINTS & SINNERS,” with solos by all the members (the a cappella “Soldier Of Fortune” can be considered a Coverdale solo). ). Of course, there is Cozy’s solo, but here it is “Overture 1812” with “633rd Bomber Squadron” instead of “Mars”. Along with the MSG era, you can experience the most gorgeous and long version of the solo in Cozy history with the best sound. I was able to enjoy such a show all over Japan, but even here in Hokkaido, the performance was amazing. The key point is that it is cozy. 1984 was even heavy metallic due to the chemical change with John Sykes, but 1983 was powerful but still hard rock. Of course, it is completely different from the suppleness of Ian Paice, but it is groovy while being aggressive. Colin Hodgkinson probably has a lot to do with this. It is said that he did not listen to Cozy, but it is because of him that the groove remains intact. It’s a good contrast to Neil Murray, who was also a jazz-rock fan, but who was also skillful and read the atmosphere, and who also went along with the metallic style. And, the sound of this work allows you to enjoy the taste of 1983 to the fullest. In fact, the bass is somewhat round, but Hodgkinson is also a bassist whose attack sound is too sharp (depending on the sound). However, in this work, the sense of unity with the drums is transformed into power by the sound, and the grooves at the core of the rough feel emerge. When this happens, Koji suddenly comes alive. The bang-bash-thump-thump roars out with incredible force, yet without any fear, the guitar, organ, and the brave singing voice of Coverdale clearly cut through. While you can fully enjoy the power and groove, you can clearly understand the melody and beat that each person spins. It is a famous recording that is like a dedicated sound to enjoy the “1983 White Snake”. WHITESNAKE is different from the delicate emotion of the Bernie Marsden era and the aggressive metal feel of the John Sykes era. This is a live album where you can fully enjoy the blues rock that specializes in strong power and groove. It’s not just a novelty for the first time, it’s not a piece to fill out a collection. One of the peaks of mellow and powerful British blues rock that fully captures the “true value of 1983” that can only be expressed by the audience.
