Description
Early WHITESNAKE was a treasure of British blues rock. The highest peak of the traditional sound board that has continued to convey its charm has been decided to be released. The traditional edition includes two FM sound sources from the historic Reading Festival. This is a two-disc set with one disc each containing “August 26, 1979” from the “LOVEHUNTER” era and “August 24, 1980” from the “READY AN’ WILLING” era. These two sound boards are both classic classics. FM broadcasting produced numerous air check albums, and it has reigned as the pinnacle live album of the blues rock era with performances that are equal to…or even better than the official “LIVE… IN THE HEART OF THE CITY”. . This work is the pinnacle of such a classic. Both are not air checks, but are transcendental records that do not go through radio waves. First of all, the “1979 edition” on Disc 1 is the American broadcasting station “NEW JERSEY RADIO NETWORK” version. It has been digitally translated directly from the broadcast master, and there is no noise or deterioration in sound quality that is common with air check sound sources. The other disc 2, “1980 edition”, also has a different origin, but it is still the best. This is a BBC rebroadcast version released in the digital age, and has been released on disc with zero deterioration. These two types first appeared about 10 years ago as “SUMMER OF ’79” and “BLOOD AND FLAG.” In the blink of an eye, the previous attack was dismissed. Since then, it has remained unrivaled as the strongest broadcast version to date. “As a broadcast version” is also a key point. In fact, these two soundboards are included as a bonus in the 2011 official box set “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. It has already been made official. So, if you ask me whether this work has no value, then that is not the case. Although the official box is actually out of print and priced at tens of thousands of yen, the quality of this work was on par with the official version. Of course, they are not completely the same. The official edition comes with a digitally remastered studio work, so the sound is quite flashy and emphasizes dynamism. In contrast, this work maintains the freshness without deterioration, and accurately records the subtleties of the original analog master. Of course, the official dynamic sound is not bad, but the problem is that the main character is WHITESNAKE from the blues rock era. The beat breathes a pulsating groove, and the twin harmonies breathe deep blues. The juicy music perfectly matches the analog feel, and it has a much deeper flavor than the glistening official CD. The program’s DJ further enhances the historical mood. Mention the program name and band, and promote the sponsor Coca-Cola. Although it is just a short comment, it gives a great sense of the times. Of course, it is not included on the official CD, and you can enjoy it here with the official quality, which is much higher sound quality than many previous releases. Classic Snake’s masterpiece with such a sound is truly the pinnacle of British blues rock. “1979 Edition (Disc 1)” is the two performances immediately after joining Pace, and is essentially the unveiling show of the new lineup. The impact of having all three former DEEP PURPLE members together was huge, and many reporters gathered at the famous festival. With a solid understanding of their attention, they delivered an enthusiastic performance that emphasized the appeal of the new lineup, which is different from DP’s reunion. “Come On” and “Might Just Take Your Life” are not included as they are edited according to the broadcast schedule, but “Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues” and “Love Hunter”, which were not released at the time, are included. They started performing early, and their early songs “Breakdown” and “Whitesnake Boogie” were extremely hot. And “Belgian Tom’s Hat Trick” featuring Pace’s drum solo! The brilliant and overwhelming drumming is the same as DEEP PURPLE’s heyday, and Jon Lord’s Hammond on top of it is also in great condition. The more the enthusiasm of “We are different from DP!” is filled, the more you will be reminded of the golden DEEP PURPLE, so you can enjoy the ironic and best performance. And the “1980 edition (disc 2)”, which has been one year old, is also overwhelming. At the time, “READY AN’ WILLING” was a big hit, and it was released two months after the Hammersmith performance that became the basis for “LIVE… IN THE HEART OF THE CITY.” The ensemble has already matured, and the charm of the “deep but catchy” white snake style blues rock is on full display. Although the opening “Come On” was also cut, “Sweet Talker”, which was the second song on the scene, has amazing momentum as if it were in pole position. The set that includes the hit songs of “READY AN’ WILLING” feels like a shortened version of “LIVE… IN THE HEART OF THE CITY”, but the energy of this work is actually higher! It’s much more vivid than “LIVE… IN THE HEART OF THE CITY”, which was prepared with a large amount of overdubs, and the ambition that serves as the bird of the festival in his home country is astounding. Everything is overwhelming, but the climax is “Mistreated”. If John’s intro improvisation is colorful, Barney and Mickey’s sticky tones are also exquisite. And above all, Coverdale sings with all his might! Her sexy breathing and Chinese-sounding roar are both powerful and glamorous. The charm of a blues singer that could no longer be enjoyed in the screaming style of later years is concentrated in one song. It is no wonder that fans have loved it as the pinnacle for many years, aside from the famous album “LIVE… IN THE HEART OF THE CITY”. Along with “Soldier Of Fortune”, it is a once-in-a-generation masterpiece. It is a two-disc set that has the same sound as the radio at the time, but packed with original quality that could never be heard on the radio at the time.
