Description
WHITE LION, a legendary band from the late 80s that reveled in its fleeting heyday, is getting two live albums released simultaneously, offering an unparalleled experience of their performances! This is the second of two consecutive releases, a superb audience recording of their Toronto concert on August 24, 1989. While its companion album, ‘TORONTO 1987’, was a live album from the ‘PRIDE’ era, this one is from the subsequent ‘BIG GAME’ era. Similarly, let’s explore the show’s position within the context of their activities at the time.・January 28: Appeared at Party Ninja’s Benefit ・May 23 – August 8: North America #1 (42 shows) 《’BIG GAME’ released on August 10》 ・August 19 – September 24: North America #2 (19 shows) ←★HERE★ ・October 3 – November 4: Europe (25 shows) ←※BONN 1989 ・November 17 – 24: Japan (5 shows) ・December 10: London show A superb recording that captures the energy immediately after the release of the new album. This is WHITE LION in 1989. The Toronto show on this album was the fourth show of “North America #2”, two weeks after the release of ‘BIG GAME’. This album, which vacuum-packs that show, is a sister work to ‘TORONTO 1987’, which was released at the same time, as it was made from the original cassette by the same recording engineer, but the sound is quite different. While “TORONTO 1987” was a powerful, assertive style, this album combines strength and beauty. There’s a strong, direct core to the sound, but it doesn’t overpower, and the ensemble is beautifully balanced. Vito Bratta’s virtuosity shines through with each note, and at the same time, the gritty bass and every drum hit are clear and distinct. The sounds woven by the four musicians overlap, but they don’t blend together; they’re beautifully separated. It’s the kind of sound you’d want to call “soundboard quality.” The BIG GAME Tour set, condensed from two masterpieces The stage depicted with this beautiful yet powerful, superb sound is like a single show combining the two masterpieces, “PRIDE” and “BIG GAME.” Speaking of the “BIG GAME Tour,” our store’s masterpiece “BONN 1989 (Shades 1336)” is also a classic, but the set on this album is a little different. Let’s compare and organize them here. Pride (5 songs) – Hungry / Tell Me / Wait / All You Need Is Rock ‘n’ Roll (★) / When The Children Cry Big Game (4 songs) – Let’s Get Crazy / Dirty Woman / Little Fighter / Radar Love *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not included in the masterpiece ‘BONN 1989’. …and so on. On this day, they were the opening act for CINDERELLA and also coupled with TANGIER. Therefore, it was a short set of about 52 minutes, but it was a luxurious two-part set with 5 songs from ‘PRIDE’ and 4 songs from ‘BIG GAME’. It’s also nice that “All You Need Is Rock ‘n’ Roll”, which wasn’t included in the masterpiece ‘BONN 1989’, is included. The 1989 performance has been revived from the original cassette by the same recording engineer as ‘TORONTO 1987’. This live album offers a full experience of WHITE LION at the height of their energy immediately following the release of their new album, “BIG GAME,” in a powerful yet beautiful, superb sound. Enjoying it together with its companion album will further vividly portray the trajectory of WHITE LION in the late 80s, from the “PRIDE” era to the “BIG GAME” era. This is a superb audience recording of their Toronto performance on August 24, 1989. This is a previously unreleased recording from a newly discovered original cassette, and a companion album by the same recording engineer as the simultaneously released “TORONTO 1987.” With its superb sound that combines power and beauty, you can fully experience a stage performance that condenses the essence of their two masterpieces, “PRIDE” and “BIG GAME.” CNE Grandstand, Toronto, ON, Canada 24th August 1989 (52:00) 01.
