Description
This tribute concert was held in New York on June 19, 1992, nine months after Miles’ death. The recording is based on the radio on-air master’s soundboard sound source and has been digitally remastered in 2025. It lasts for 1 hour and 36 minutes. This is an excavated recording from the archive series that has been progressing in recent years, and the most notable feature is the members, who are all four members of the strongest 60’s quintet, and Wallace Roney, who Miles recognized as his successor even before his death, on trumpet. It’s a quintet formation that you can’t imagine having better members. The concert, which starts with “So What” by Wayne Shorter, Herbie, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and others, features a succession of representative numbers from that golden age, and Rooney also shows off his amazing playing in tribute to Miles. Although there are some cuts and fade-outs due to the recording being broadcast, this is undoubtedly the best performance of the many Miles tributes out there.
