Description
Blues, jazz, folk, psych…rock in 1970 was a smorgasbord of all sorts of musical cultures. A professional shot work that condenses such an era with ultra-high quality has been decided to be released. The stage for this work was the Olympia Theater from January 6th to 11th, 1970. “OPERATION 666” is a film that records the legendary music festival “UNDERGROUND MUSIC FESTIVAL” held in Paris. A variety of bands/musicians participated over the five days, and this work includes 17 songs from 14 groups. There are no documentaries or interviews, and you can simply immerse yourself in the performance and music. It is a rich content worthy of the name “UNDERGROUND”, but the quality of conveying it is also amazing. This is a master that was discovered in recent years, and its image and sound quality are completely official. As you can see in the screen capture on the right, it is a monochrome image, but it is an overwhelmingly beautiful image that is undoubtedly derived from the original film. Every single strand of hair is clearly defined, and the movements of the young heroes as they lock in their passion are just as smooth. Of course, the audio is also a perfect sound board, and the quality of BBC and BEAT CLUB is also high. It can be officially released as is… No, it is a video record that I would like to see in theaters. And the content even overwhelms the visual beauty. Anyway, the cast members and era are amazing. Let’s introduce each group one by one. 《Disc 1》 ●RENAISSANCE (1 song) The opening act for this work is the British prog rock legend RENAISSANCE. Of course, it’s 1970, so it’s not Annie Haslam, but Keith and Jane Relf’s brother and sister days. They play “Island” from their debut album, and just the sight of the two of them moving and Jim McCarty playing the drums is moving. ●TASTE (1 song) Next up is TASTE led by Rory Gallagher. At the time, they were one week away from the release of “ON THE BOARDS.” The Isle of Wight festival that they performed in August of this year is also legendary, and they performed “Catfish” with a scorching ensemble that rivals that. ●CANNED HEAT (2 songs) CANNED HEAT can be said to be the highlight of the first half. This is a white blues band made up of blues researchers Al Willson and Bob Hite, and what’s great about it is that Al, who passed away in September of this year, is still alive. It’s a professional shot. Bob’s hoarse voice is also in great condition and he sings “Let’s Work Together” and “On The Road Again” with great gusto. You can enjoy the highest quality white blues that even black blue men have recognized. ●ZOO (1 song) ZOO is “exactly UNDERGROUND”. A band that graced the dawn of French rock, their individuality is overwhelming with their prog-style brass rock and avant-garde vocals. I think it was possible to perform because it was a local festival, but I didn’t expect to be able to enjoy watching such a maniacal band in action (and in the highest quality)… Seriously, this work is amazing. ●FAMILY (1 song) FAMILY by Roger Chapman, a famous singer with a trembling voice. At that time, they were two weeks before the release of “A SONG FOR ME”, and you can see them burning up with the first song of their debut, “The Weaver’s Answer”. ●COLOSSEUM (1 song) COLOSSEUM, the pride of Britain, led by John Heisman. Chris Farlow has not yet been seen since he appeared before and after the release of “THE GRASS IS GREENER”. Both Dick Hextall-Smith and Heisman, who have strong blows, look youthful, and the multi-camera professional shot that even their facial expressions are stunning is overwhelming. ●Terry Reid (2 songs) Terry Reid’s name always comes up when people talk about the formation of LED ZEPPELIN. He shows off a wonderfully stretching throat in two songs, and especially the slow blues “I’ve Got News For You” can’t help but imagine ZEP with which he joined. 《Disc 2》 ●MARTIN CIRCUS (1 song) Amazing again. MARTIN CIRCUS is a famous band that is said to be “France’s first progressive rock band.” Although it is not the legendary costume that is said to be the “founder of rock theater” before ANGE, the unique French rock style is still attractive. ●KEEF HARTLEY BAND (1 song) This is another British heavyweight KEEF HARTLEY BAND. At the time, they were working on “THE TIME IS NEAR,” and they played an intense blues rock song with Sleepy John Estis’ “Leavin’ Trunk.” ●YES (1 song) YES is the highlight of disc 2. This is an original multi-camera pro shot featuring not only Bill Bruford but also Peter Banks. What’s more, the song they play is rare, “Dear Father,” which was the B-side of their single “Sweet Dreams.” Peter in action is great, but the sight of Tony struggling with Hammond with his Keith Emerson-like hair violently shaking is a must-see. ●EAST OF EDEN (1 song) EAST OF EDEN, led by Dave Arbus, is a famous band that stands out even in the unique progressive rock scene. During the “SNAFU” era, when he turned to jazz rock, he performed “Ramadhan” from that masterpiece. Arbus’ dancing flute is the best. ●MANFRED MANN CHAPTER THREE (1 song) Manfred Mann from South Africa. Although he is shown by his personal name in the film, he was also from the CHAPTER THREE era when he was oriented toward jazz and rock. Two months after the release of his debut work, which was the first on the prestigious VERTIGO label, he performed “Time” in a freaky way. ●MOODY BLUES (1 song) The original concept king, MOODY BLUES, also participated. Inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing, he performed the famous song “Gypsy” in the “Children’s Children’s Children” era. The dignity of a mogul who was already a platinum artist is truly impressive. ●Richie Heavens (2 songs) The last song of this work is Richie Heavens, who opened at Woodstock in 1969 and suddenly became a person of the moment. This festival is about half a year since Woodstock, and they are singing “You Never Give Me Your Money” and “Helplessly Hoping” with an enthusiasm comparable to that historic performance. A total of 17 songs in 14 groups. The deep and diverse cast is overwhelming, and each performs with historic enthusiasm. How deep and wide was rock in 1970? This is a multi-camera professional shot that speaks more eloquently than a thousand words. A blissful two-hour experience that is nothing short of a “rock cultural heritage.” ★This is probably the first title to be released from storage this year, with an amazing video title.
