Description
We present a video collection that features the “behind the scenes” of this historic stage. A major riot broke out on the final day of “Woodstock 99.” It became such a commotion that even the New York Police Department’s riot squad was called in. The cause was the management’s excessive focus on profit. It is common to declare that “food and drink are not allowed to be brought in,” but even though it was a huge festival that mobilized 200,000 people, they even conducted physical examinations at the entrance and confiscated it. They made the audience buy expensive things (bottled water for $4, one serving of pizza for $12) at booths inside the venue. This, combined with the lack of running water and toilets, only made the audience more and more frustrated. There was also a lack of staff and security to deal with the situation, and the angry audience began looting, which escalated into a riot. It is generally believed that the riot broke out during the final act, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, but a huge pillar of fire had already risen on the stage of MEGADETH, and the police also intervened. The situation became so bad that MTV, which was broadcasting the event live, withdrew its staff for safety. This work is a collection of footage of such riots. This work includes footage taken by ordinary people at the scene, news programs from that time, and animations based on the riots. It also includes interviews with METALLICA and MEGADETH. The interviews with the two heroes mainly talk about music, but the most amazing part is the “riot scene.” The news footage of many pillars of flame rising like a battlefield is strangely powerful, but the most overwhelming part is the footage taken by the audience at the scene. They are destroying equipment with glee like a campfire, climbing steel towers, and burning trailers. There is also a scene of looting at the merchandise store, but they don’t even hide their faces. They take away cardboard boxes with all their might. And the scene the next day is gruesome. Riot police are hanging around in a dull world without morning mist or smoke, and the whole place is a mountain of desolate garbage. According to the New York Police Department, at least four rape cases occurred and seven people were arrested. To be honest, during the riots it felt like a “grand extension of a prank,” but the scene the next day made it clear that the devastation was far from over. And the news footage reporting the riots also featured tragedy and misery. Photos of crying women were reported, and interviews on the scene also spoke of fear… The festival was later officially made into a video work, but the movement was completely cut out. It was like “Love & Peace” had been revived 30 years later. However, the actual scene where METALLICA and MEGADETH were present was not like that. A shocking video that shows the truth of the riots for 60 minutes. Documentary Footage, News Programs & Interviews etc (60:27) 1. Documentary Footage #1 2. Simpsons Animation 3.
