Description

Two legendary bands, METALLICA and MEGADETH, and the British heroes Diamond Head, who are both roots of both bands. This special performance soundboard album featuring these three bands who rewrote metal history is here. This special performance took place in Milton Keynes on June 5, 1993. This work is a stereo soundboard recording. At the time, METALLICA and MEGADETH were at the height of their success, with their “BLACK ALBUM” and “COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION” albums. They were on a coupling tour to promote reconciliation after years of feuding, and the Milton Keynes performance was a highlight of that tour. This show was not just a coupling; it also featured Diamond Head, a common root for both bands, and THE ALMIGHTY, a rising star in the UK at the time. It was a festival-style event featuring a total of four bands. Furthermore, in 1993, “MONSTERS OF ROCK” was canceled due to the unbelievable reason of a “booking error.” It became a major event, attracting British fans who had lost their annual summer festivals. (You can enjoy the atmosphere of the event in our pro-shot gift, “MILTON KEYNES 1993: TV SPECIAL.”) Such was the concert’s popularity that it was even broadcast on the radio. This four-disc set includes fully official soundboards of DIAMOND HEAD (DISC 1), MEGADETH (DISC 2), and METALLICA (DISC 3-4). (Note: The Almighty only aired three songs on TV and is not included in this release.) Let’s take a look at each one individually. DISC 1: DIAMOND HEAD First up is DIAMOND HEAD, who were among the first bands to appear. They disbanded in 1985, but reunited after METALLICA covered their song. At the time, they had just released their first comeback album in 10 years, “DEATH AND PROGRESS.” Lars Ulrich is famously a big fan of DIAMOND HEAD, as is Dave Mustaine. They frequently performed together, competing for a common hero, and Mustaine even participated in “Death and Progress.” DIAMOND HEAD’s performances were also officially released as part of the excavated live album “Live at the BBC,” but this CD is from a master that surpasses that. Sound quality is nearly identical to “Live at the BBC,” but the recording time is about two minutes longer. This is truly the best soundboard in existence. And the show itself is also superb. The set includes selections from all four albums up to “Death and Progress,” opening with the killer “Am I Evil?” Subsequent covers of “Sucking My Love” and “Helpless,” previously covered by Metallica (during Mustaine’s tenure), anchor the album, with Sean Harris shouting, “Thank you, Metallica!!” before “Helpless” is performed. This is not only a musically excellent live album, but also a memorable moment that loudly proclaims the significance of the reconciliation concert. DISC 2: MEGADETH Edition Next up is MEGADETH, the star of the show. This is the classic FM soundboard that has produced countless pre-releases for a long time, and this is its best master. Using the same master as the legendary album “BULLSHIT IS OVER!!,” which took the world by storm 10 years ago, this release also includes bonus tracks “Peace Sells” and “Anarchy In The U.K.”, which were previously only broadcast on TV. This album captures the full extent of existing soundboards. In fact, there are soundboards circulating claiming to be the “Complete 1993 Milton Keynes Edition,” but these are fakes, padded out with B-side singles and Hammersmith performances. The remaining four tracks from this album—”Countdown to Extinction,” “Lucretia,” “Sweating Bullets,” and “Holy Wars”—have yet to be discovered, and the 10 tracks included on this album remain. While a premium soundboard from the “Countdown to Extinction” era is a treasure in itself, the highlight of this album is the MC, who proudly proclaims before “Liar”: “Today will be a historic day. The 10 years of bullshit between Megadeth and Metallica is over!” (Note: Strictly speaking, the two bands had already performed together at a year-end event in 1985. However, Megadeth, who had just debuted at that point, was considered inferior to other performers like Metal Church and Exodus. This “Milton Keynes 1993” was the first time they performed as the second billboard after METALLICA. DSIC 3-4: METALLICA Edition METALLICA was the final headliner. Their stage was crowded with various pre-releases, some of which had cuts and fade-outs between songs, and even some that seemed to be intermixed with unrelated music, but this work is the longest and best master. Although the two undiscovered second encore tracks, “Enter Sandman” and “So What,” are not included, the rest are completely included. The first encore tracks, “Nothing Else Matters,” “Sad But True,” “Last Caress,” and “One,” which were not included in the pro-shot version, are also perfect. And the live performance is also kingly. The same can be said for MEGADETH, whose band potential, having created masterpieces like “BLACK ALBUM” and “COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION,” is at a career high. The popularity and enthusiasm of the audiences waiting for them is also at a career high. Even for bands with long histories, this is the peak of their peak, a more fulfilling era than ever before. Furthermore, with the spirit of a historic event infused, it couldn’t be worse. The sharpness of the riffs, honed over the past 10 years since their debut, is more visceral than ever, and the heavy numbers resonate deeply. Jason Newsted’s roar, something we can no longer expect, is also a powerful, climaxing live performance. While this is a historic event marking the reconciliation of the two greats, the musical peak of the “BLACK ALBUM” and “COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION” era is also intense. Moreover, it’s an absolute masterpiece, bringing together the ancestors of both bands, DIAMOND HEAD, allowing you to enjoy everything on a fully official soundboard. This stereo soundboard recording of the June 5, 1993 Milton Keynes concert marks the historic reconciliation between Metallica and Megadeth, and features the longest and highest quality master recording, including the band’s ancestors, Diamond Head. This ultimate four-disc set is arguably the pinnacle of heavy metal music, showcasing the pinnacle of live performances from the Black Album and Countdown to Extinction eras in full, official quality.
