Description
A luxurious set of professional shots of the last paradise of the golden age of metal will be released! This film was shot in Rio de Janeiro on January 21, 1991. It is the fifth day of the huge rock festival “ROCK IN RIO II”. The second film was held six years after the first in 1985. 40 groups performed over nine days, and the lineup was quite diverse, including Prince, NXS, NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, George Michael, and others. Among such general rock festivals, only the fifth day had a strange mood. The image was different from the other days, and it was a rush of heavy metal bands that are currently exciting. The core of the festival was the three consecutive shots of JUDAS PRIEST, MEGADETH, and QUEENSRYCHE. This film is a compilation of the three groups on the fifth day, which dyed ROCK IN RIO in steel, with the highest quality multi-camera professional shots ever. Moreover, these three groups are in the best band situation. After all, they released super-famous albums such as “PAINKILLER”, “RUST IN PEACE” and “EMPIRE” at that time. In both cases, the apex band potential is unfolded in the pro-shot video. Now, let’s introduce each disc. [Disc 1: JUDAS PRIEST] First up is our steel god JUDAS PRIEST. In the order of appearance at the scene, it was a quasi-tori that sat before the trio GUNS N’ ROSES, but in this work, it was placed at the top of the main role. The quality is superb. It is not official class only in South America in the 1990s, but the masters excavated in recent years are in a different dimension from the many already released. There is no distortion due to dubbing marks, no line noise, and the vivid color is the same as it was at the time. The show drawn with that quality is also the ultimate heavy metal paradise. After all, it is the era of the super-famous album “PAINKILLER”, so it has a rich metallic luster in the history of Priest. And yet, unlike after the reunion, Rob screams in the original key… Speaking of this “PAINKILLER TOUR”, the peak “IRVINE 1991” that was recently unearthed is also very popular, but they also play “Grinder”, “Beyond The Realms Of Death” and “Victim Of Changes” that cannot be seen there. In fact, the three “IRVINE 1991”, the coupling gift with Megadeth “DETROIT 1990”, and this Rio are what are called “the three major professional shots of PAINKILLER TOUR”. We have not only handled Rio, but we have recorded the highest quality version of the last one. [Disc 2: MEGADETH] Next is MEGADETH, who has just entered their golden age with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza. On the US tour, he was the opening act for Priest (so the pro shot “DETROIT 1990” from the Auburn Hills performance was also coupled), but he also appeared on the same day at ROCK IN RIO. This is also a valuable pro shot from the popular “RUST IN PEACE” era, and it is a famous video that has produced many previous releases. However, the quality of this work is wonderful to wipe out such previous releases. In the previous releases, the deterioration due to repeated dubbing was severe, and it was not uncommon for the members to blur twice. However, the master of this work is vivid and clear, and it is beautiful to see. Since as many songs as possible are recorded from multiple broadcasts, the quality is not completely constant, and the beginning “Hangar 18” has a little distortion caused by the master. However, the basic image quality is comparable to the official work, and the tape distortion is drastically reduced from the second song onwards. You can enjoy the precious “RUST IN PEACE” era in plenty. The performance of the “RUST IN PEACE” era is the only and unique paradise in the history of MEGADETH. With Marty & Nick, their performance level has improved dramatically, and it is a different kind of explosive heaven from the “COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION” that has widened its scope. The explosive run, which seems to say “Let’s make it faster because we’ve become better”, does not break down no matter how much they run. They run through complicated riffs and complex developments one after another, and run at a ferocious speed that is different from the studio version. There are many fast-paced thrash bands and metal bands with complex songs, but the only metal that runs so intensely and sharply and yet so precisely that it gives a sense of ease and stability is MEGADETH (on this tour). [Disc 3: QUEENSRYCHE] Finally, QUEENSRYCHE, the king of progressive metal, who was also in the brilliance of his heyday with his masterpiece “EMPIRE”. Like MEGADETH, this is also edited from multiple broadcasts aiming for the longest length, so it is not constant, but the basic quality is exceptionally beautiful among the three bands… no, this level is not that far from it. Looking at all the footage of “ROCK IN RIO II”, it is top class, and the visual beauty is far from the so-called “South American quality”. And the contents are also the pinnacle of QUEENSRYCHE. The “golden five”, including Jeff Tate and Chris Degarmo, come together and play only super masterpieces from “THE WARNING” to “EMPIRE”. The core of the show is a digest version of the masterpiece “OPERATION: MINDCRIME”, and that near-future world shakes the sea of the large audience spreading in Rio. A great spectacle that cannot be experienced with other professional shots spreads across the screen. Although it is only the standard professional shots of each band, all of them are superb products that update the highest peak with a master of a different dimension from the previous one. And it is a masterpiece that the real pleasure comes from stacking these three images. Shortly after this, heavy metal was hit by the double whammy of the industry recession triggered by the Gulf War and the grunge whirlwind, and rapidly lost momentum. To put it bluntly, the metal scene was dead for 10 years until IRON MAIDEN raised the signal of revival with the “METAL 2000 TOUR”. However, this work is filled with the last brilliance just before entering that dark age. Moreover, the three groups in this work were also at the forefront. JUDAS PRIEST pursued the “core of metal”, MEGADETH created their own intellectual metal, and QUEENSRYCHE was trying to speed up the progress. Heavy metal is not just shining in the mainstream, but also trying to push forward into the “future”. This is a work filled with that brilliance. Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janeiro.
