Description

On September 15, 1997, a historic concert was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. “Montserrat Island Relief Concert” has been officially released on DVD. This time, to commemorate Eric Clapton’s 21st Japan tour, who played an important part in this event, we have decided to release a 2CD. This edition not only contains a perfect stereo soundboard recording of this event, but it is also different from the bootleg that was released in the past as a video recording, and is a pre-FM of this concert that was broadcast on British radio at the time. This is a direct recording of the master. The provider of the master is a heavy-duty taper living in the UK who has gained a reputation and trust in our Clapton titles. Therefore, we are confident that our customers will be satisfied with this edition. If you compare the list of recorded songs, it will be obvious, but the number of songs is different (more) than the official video work. In addition, this edition includes a full MC by the late famous producer George Martin, who was the organizer, as well as a full introduction MC performed by another performing artist before each artist’s set. For song purposes, Midge Ure’s numbers that were not included on the official edition, Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight, Mark Knopfler’s Going Home, and Sting’s Fields of Gold can only be heard on this edition. Clapton’s performance is the same as the official version, but it is no exaggeration to say that this version allows you to correctly grasp the significance and full picture of this concert. As you can see from the credits of the participating musicians, this concert was attended by many of Britain’s top musicians at the time. It’s a luxury that musicians with musical instrument credits serve as the house band, but with the addition of main artists across the board, many dream collaborations have come true. Among them, Knopfler’s Money For Nothing, in which Clapton also participated, Clapton’s Layla, Same Old Blues, in which Knopfler participated in return, and the encore featuring Paul McCartney, in which all the performers participated, there is no more luxury than this. It is a sound source that fans are drooling over. This event was a charity concert proposed by Martin, who owned the famous AIR studio on Montserrat Island, which was devastated by a volcanic eruption, to help the islanders, and who created the British rock world from behind the scenes. It can be said that it was because he called out that so many artists gathered together. Artists who have recorded at Martin’s AIR studio came along with their memories. In the inserted interview, they talk about their memories of the recording, and in the background there are fragments of the sounds of the artists during their rehearsals. You can hear the real voice of a big artist, so it’s different from just a DJ’s plug-in audio. In particular, in an interview with Paul McCartney, he talks about his treasured memories, saying, “I have wonderful memories of sessioning with Stevie Wonder on Montserrat Island.” George Martin also talks about this at the beginning, but Ringo Starr was also there. Broken Hearted, which Clapton, who recorded the album “BEHIND THE SUN” on Montserrat Island in 1984, plays with just an acoustic guitar, is a song that has an anecdote that he wrote it on the same Caribbean island, Antigua, out of the heartbreak of being dumped by his lover. It’s a super rare take that touches your heart. This album has a monumental title, as artists with such wonderful memories responded to George Martin’s thoughts, and the entire story of the historic event is conveyed in a way that is even better than the official edition. Rockabilly god Carl Perkins also participates at Paul’s request, so this album is a must-listen for not only British rock fans but all rock fans. It is the perfect title not only to trace the footsteps of Clapton and other great artists who came together, but also to remember George Martin, a great British producer who is considered a Living National Treasure.
