Description

We will release a video set that will please guitarist fans! The Crossroads Guitar Festival was a benefit concert event held three times over seven years for the Crossroads Center, a relief facility for drug and alcohol addicts founded by Eric Clapton. We have included the satellite broadcast versions of the three episodes in Japan on DVD. This event was held to raise funds for the Crossroads Center, which was built on the island of Antigua by Eric Clapton, who himself suffered from drug and alcohol addiction, using his personal funds. Clapton’s famous blues and country guitarists and musicians all came together at his voice, creating an unexpected collaboration and performance that you wouldn’t normally see. All ticket sales for the music fans who came from all over the world to witness it were donated to the Crossroads Center. A few weeks ago, we were thrilled with the audio and video from this year’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, and this week we’re planning to let you enjoy all the highlights from past festivals all at once. We have reviewed each of the highlights, so please refer to them. [The first groundbreaking event that brought together great guitarists] Five years have passed since Clapton held his 1999 “Crossroads Benefit Concert” at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The purpose of this event was changed, and Clapton personally requested all of the many blues and country guitarists he respected to perform on stage for three days. This is a recording of patterns. Although it has been officially released as a 2-disc DVD, this edition is a condensed version of only the highlight scenes that were broadcast as a Japanese satellite broadcast program. I’m glad that everything is subtitled in Japanese, including the witty MCs uttered by each guitarist. The highlight of this first episode (though not limited to this one) is that you can enjoy the unexpected face-to-face stage performance of famous guitarists. The great collaboration between black blues giants B.B. King, Hubert Sumlin, and Buddy Guy, whom Clapton respects, and his allies Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, and Robert Randolph is eye-catching, but the topic of this episode is: Clapton must have brought out J.J. Cale, the legendary guitarist who hated performing in major venues and had continued his modest musical activities in his hometown of Tulsa. It was here that I was able to perform for the first time with the person I had admired since I made my first solo album in 1970. Clapton fully supports Cale as a sideman. I’m sure he was happy. And it’s been a long time since I’ve collaborated with Santana. A wry smile leaks out at Clapton, who is in a guitar battle with Santana wearing Bermuda shorts and a shirt, giving him a resort-like look. It also includes guitarists who have already passed away, including Robert Lockwood Jr., who was the adopted son of Clapton’s beloved Robert Johnson, as well as B.B., Hubert, and J.J. I think it’s fun to think about the history of blues and rock while checking out what they were like back in the day. You can also see old and new technicians such as John Mayer, Joe Walsh (Eagles), ZZ Top, and James Taylor. Also, enthusiasts will be happy to hear that country greats Vince Gill and Jerry Douglas, who are well-known guitarists, appeared on the album. Please enjoy the highlights of the first festival held by a great group of members. [The second edition of The Last Waltz and Blind Faith] This edition is a high-quality recording of the second Crossroads Guitar Festival, which was held for the first time in three years since the first festival in 2004. This is a satellite broadcast video that recorded lights. After the first event was a great success, Eric Clapton wanted to put more spotlight on the minor guitarists he respected, and decided to make this event a regular event. Like last time, I spoke to senior black blues guitarists and white blues guitarists from the same generation, and this time I will be speaking with former The Band member Robbie Robertson, who can be called a lifelong friend, and an ally who once formed Blind Faith. I invited Steve Winwood (of course my long-time friend Jeff Beck also appeared). The collaboration with Robbie is reminiscent of “The Last Waltz” in 1976, and the collaboration with Steve is exactly reminiscent of Blind Faith. Regarding Clapton, the biggest topic was co-starring with the two. Elsewhere, Derek Trucks, the young No. 1 slide guitarist who joined the Clapton Band the previous year and toured with them around the world, is featured. One of the highlights is the collaboration of old and new slide guitar masters between him and Johnny Winter, and the collaboration of old and new country guitarists Willie Nelson and Vince Gill and Albert Lee. The common language of music is wonderfully breaking down generational barriers. The appearance of this kind of scene is probably the best part of this festival. The scene where Clapton supports his former lover Sheryl Crow on the guitar is also heartwarming. As a side note, Bill Murray is originally an American actor, but apparently this was the first time he appeared on stage playing the guitar. Even in this episode, you can see the dignified appearances of B.B. King and Hubert Sumlin, who were still alive and well. Please enjoy this edition, which has plenty of highlights that are just as good as the first edition. [Third edition that supported rising young guitarists] This album contains highlights from the satellite broadcast of the third Crossroads Guitar Festival, which was held three years after the second edition. . This is the third episode, where I feel like young guitarists who have broken out in the scene have emerged with each successive episode. Doyle Bramhall II, Gary Clark Jr., Keb Mo, Johnny Lang and others are joining senior guitarists on stage in addition to their own sets. Both John Mayer and Derek Trucks are performing again (Trucks’ wife Susan Tedeschi also appears on stage). John Mayer appears in a trio with top-notch session man Pino Palladino on bass, and top-notch drummer Steve Jordan, who has played with Keith Richards and is also a member of the Clapton Band. It captures the finely honed performance achieved with the minimum number of members. Looking at it this way, I feel like I can understand the position of Clapton, who is widely admired by everyone from his seniors to his younger juniors. Steve Winwood will be participating in Clapton’s stage as before and co-starring again. In this year, Winwood performed Jimi Hen’s Voodoo Chile, which he played on the organ early in his career, with Clapton, who was a close friend of Jimi Hen. The feature of this festival is that you can see such moving stages as well as lively performances by young artists. Sonny Landreth is, in Clapton’s words, “the world’s most unknown slide guitarist, the world’s best slide guitarist,” and Clapton was heartbroken that people like him were being left behind, so he decided to perform at this festival. It is said that he requested. And at this festival, Clapton is also providing support. As a result of this effort, Landreth has gained recognition and become known worldwide since this festival. In addition to raising funds for his own business, Clapton, the organizer, probably had his sights set on revitalizing and interacting with the old and new in the blues and country worlds. You can tell that Clapton himself enjoys playing with various guitarists. It’s also great to see glimpses of the faces of James Burton, who was Elvis Presley’s exclusive guitarist, and Ronnie Wood of the Stones. The third episode is packed with highlights unique to this episode. Please enjoy this edition as well. This “Crossroads Guitar Festival” has since been held in 2013 and 2019, and each time, as in the past, it has attracted the participation of a large number of guitarists, provided a variety of topics and moved people, and ended successfully. Ta. It has been 15 years since 2004, and during this time we have lost many comrades, including B.B. King, Hubert Sumlin, J.J. Cale, Johnny Winter, and Pino Daniel. However, as the organizer, Clapton’s intention was to support exchanges between old and new guitarists within the limited time of life, to have both parties share the joy of playing music together, and to encourage visitors and the public to appreciate the official works. We hope that our viewers and listeners will realize that even after they die, they leave a name behind, and that even after they die, they leave behind a sound, so that they will remember our great predecessors forever. I feel like it was meant to be. B.B. King’s tribute to Clapton at this festival, which concludes the recently released Clapton biopic “12 Bar Blues”, speaks for itself.
