Description
On June 12, 2018, British rock hero John Hiseman passed away. He had a malignant brain tumor, and after surgery, he was admitted to a local hospice ward on June 1. He passed away. Here is an exquisite memorial album that will accompany your memories of Hiseman. This work contains the “London performance on June 6, 2005”. This was a special performance that was not a regular tour. It was a memorial concert in memory of former COLOSSEUM member Dick Hextall Smith, who passed away in July 2004. The main act was COLOSSEUM led by Hiseman, but many other musicians who were close friends with Dick Smith also participated. This work is a three-disc set that covers this huge tribute show. First, let’s organize the artists included on each disc. [Disc 1: 3 groups (59:10)] DHSS with JOHN ETHERIDGE & BIG CHIEF (2 songs), PETE BROWN & THE INTEROCETERS (3 songs), Mick Taylor with JOHN O’LEARY BAND (3 songs) [Disc 2: 2 groups (38:57)] JAMES LITHERLAND & BARBARA THOMPSON (1 song), JACK BRUCE, GARY MOORE & GARY HUSBAND (6 songs) [Disc 3: 1 group (78:43)] COLOSSEUM (6 songs + α) A total of 6 groups. Although the number of songs seems small, there are many long improvisations, and it is a huge live album that lasts about 2 hours and 57 minutes in total. What is more wonderful than such volume is the quality. Anyway, the beautiful sound of the ultimate. There is no doubt that it is an audience recording because it is the original master handed over by the recording artist himself, but just listening to it does not seem like a customer record. It’s easy to call it “like a sound board,” but it’s more than that. The on core with no sense of distance at all, and the details where even the sound of the pick touching the guitar strings during the sound check can be heard in detail are truly sound board class. However, if you listen carefully with headphones, you can also pick up the extremely faint sound of the venue, which makes the sound even more lustrous, and is much more beautiful than the sound board sound with a bare core. In other words, it is an official work class that has been finely mixed and polished with mastering. Moreover, despite its beauty, this work also has the rawness that comes from a genuine one-take recording. Although it is of official quality, it has a reality that is never found in processed official products. It is a recording of elegance that transcends even the official quality that should be the ultimate. The show depicted with that quality is also heartwarming. As mentioned above, a lineup of distinguished faces such as Pete Brown, Mick Taylor, and John Etheridge gather together and perform deep performances that seem to speak to the deceased. Among them, Jack Bruce on disc 2 is really wonderful. He teamed up with Gary Moore to perform a CREAM number that reminds us of the return of BBM. At that time, Jack had just reformed CREAM the month before, and he had also performed with Gary Moore in 1998 after BBM, and the drummer at that age was Gary Husband. Husband is also a skilled backer of Allan Holdsworth, and the sense of breath is perfect. Although different from Eric Clapton, the guitar that is deeply involved in the blues is crying and howling loudly on the stage. And, of course, COLOSSEUM is the final act. Hiseman, along with original members Dave Greenslade, Tony Reeves, and James Litherland, will be gathered together, along with Chris Farlow, Clem Clemson, Mark Clark, who have made a brilliant name for themselves in British rock history, and Hiseman’s wife Barbara Thompson. Hisman also plays a free-flowing drumming reminiscent of his heyday, and his drum solo is powerful. His ensemble with the heavyweights of British rock is endlessly deep and powerful. The highlight of the medley, “Walking In The Park/Till The End Of Time/Stormy Monday,” is a wonderful thing… The sound of elegance surpasses even the official works, and the passionate performance dedicated to his allies. It is simply a wonderful musical work, and the more you get into it, the more your heart warms. We have introduced JCM’s “MILTON KEYNES 2018,” which was his last project, but even on that masterpiece, Hisman played as if he was talking to his old friends. Did he know that this day was approaching? The words “They’re jamming over there” are too hackneyed, but you can’t help but think so. This is a live album where you can hear such jams from the heavens.
