Description

Edward Van Halen passed away on October 6, 2020. A revolutionary child of the guitar… no, a true pioneer who revolutionized the music “rock” itself, which mainly uses the guitar, has passed away. The news has shaken the world, and even at this moment, voices of celebration and mourning for his life continue to rise. Over the past few years, some great figure in rock history has passed away every year, but never before has I felt such a huge sense of loss. We have prepared a live album from 2013, Eddie’s last visit to Japan. It has been decided that two super masterpiece titles will be released at the same time, including the finest original recordings exclusive to this work. This work is the first installment. This is a vacuum-packed, super-class audience recording of the entire performance of “June 24, 2013: Osaka City Central Gymnasium”. They have performed in Japan six times in 35 years, so this is a good opportunity to take a look at the history of their visits to Japan. David Lee Roth Era ・June 17-28, 1978 (9 performances) ・September 3-13, 1979 (7 performances) Sammy Hagar Era ・January 19-February 2, 1989 (8 performances) ・October 25, 1995 – November 2, 1995 (7 performances) Gary Cherone era ・October 20, 1998 – November 2, 1998 (9 performances) David Lee Roth reorganization era ・2013 June 18th-26th (4 performances) ←★Here★ A total of 44 performances in 6 visits to Japan. This is what VAN HALEN’s Live in Japan was all about. The last visit to Japan was originally scheduled for November 2012, but Eddie developed diverticulitis. It was postponed due to emergency surgery. Although it was just a coincidence, his final visit to Japan came to fruition exactly 35 years after his first visit. The Osaka performance of this work was the third and second to last performance. This work recorded at such a show is truly the best. After all, this work was recorded by Mr. “Western Japan’s Strongest Taper”, who is well known at our store. He is a master who always receives rave reviews such as “like a soundboard” and “better sound than I heard on site,” but this work shows off his amazing skills. In fact, on the first day of this work in Osaka, the sound output at the scene was not well received, and it was said that the sound output was unstable, especially in the early stages. However, this work does not have that sense of instability at all. The extremely thick core that was captured in the 20th row on the Wolfgang side delivers a direct feeling, and the midrange, which tends to be sparse, has a mass-class response, and the deep bass is powerful enough to shake your five organs and kick your six senses. Of course, even though it’s so powerful, it doesn’t cause any distortion or chatter, and the high notes are beautifully extended. It is a tremendously famous recording that truly embodies “sound better than what you heard on the spot”. What is depicted with such a transcendental sound is a great performance that Dave himself calls “the best show”. The set is basically very similar to the official live album “TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT”, but it is not exactly the same, so let’s organize it. Classics (19 songs + α)・Flame Fuse: Runnin’ With The Devil/I’m the One/You Really Got Me/Ice Cream Man/Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love・Legendary Bomber: Somebody Get Me A Doctor/Dance The Night Away/Women In Love/Beautiful Girls ・Dark Law: Everybody Wants Some!!/And the Cradle Will Rock/Romeo Delight ・Martial Law: Unchained/Hear About It Later ・Diver Down: (Oh) Pretty Woman・1984: I’ll Wait/Hot For Teacher/Panama/Jump A Different Kind of Truth (3 songs) ・She’s The Woman/Tattoo/China Town…and so on. Although it is a style that omitted “Mean Street” from the official version, the performance itself is superior to this work. Anyway, Dave’s vocals are in great condition, and the Japanese MC who keeps saying things like “Let’s go. New (song)!” is also interesting. And Eddie’s guitar is also crisp. Wolfgang received mixed reviews, but when I actually listened to him, it was clear that he had the skill to handle tricky phrases, and his sense of just showing off things without showing off was not befitting his youth. Then, on “You Really Got Me,” he performs a lively jam with his father Eddie, creating a scorching ensemble performance that was even said to “burn your brain.” It has been 35 years since VAN HALEN’s first visit to Japan immediately after their debut, and as of 2013, it has become impossible for VAN HALEN to ever perform in Japan. That last Japan tour was left as a posthumous work “TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT”, but that one tour is still not enough. The one and only original recording that allows you to experience the “best show” that was recognized by Dave himself and praised by fans at the time.
