Description
In 2012, VAN HALEN released “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH”, which was his last studio album in 14 years, and embarked on a long-awaited world tour. At that time, the masterpiece recording series that was a real-time report of the shocking tour will be specially reprinted. This time, even though it’s the beginning of the tour, three delicious works are being released at the same time as the engine gradually warms up and goes into full force! The “DIFFERENT LIVE OF TRUTH” series is the latest report that has been delivered with a set of masterpiece sound sources that appeared in the very early days of “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR”. This series was created in response to the request of “I want to hear the tour for the latest album as soon as possible!” The theme was “As many performances as possible, as soon as possible.” At the same time, they selected the best ones from the recordings that came out one after another, and boasted a sound quality that was far different from other CD titles. This work is the fourth in a series of such masterpieces of field reports. This work includes three performances: “March 9, 2012: Buffalo performance,” “March 11, 2012: Boston performance,” and “March 13, 2012: Manchester performance.” This is a luxurious 6-disc set with 2 full recordings of each. The detailed position of the show will be given to the simultaneously released “DIFFERENT LIVE OF TRUTH ?” and “DIFFERENT LIVE OF TRUTH ?I”, but here we will check the position of the “North American” leg, which was the stage for the entire series. 2012・January 5th – February 8th: Warm-up (3 performances) [“A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH” released on February 7th]・February 18th – April 1st: North America #1 (19 performances) )←★Coco★ ・April 10th – June 26th: North America #2 (31 performances) 2013 ・April 20th: Sydney performance ・June 18th – 26th: Japan (4 performances) ・July 20th + 24th: North America #3 (2 performances) This is a panoramic view of “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR”. The performance in Japan that gave birth to “TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT” is also memorable, but this series is just the very beginning of the tour. It was a report on “North America #1” right after the album was released. Among them, the three performances of this work were the concerts corresponding to the 9-11 performances. This work recorded at such a show is a masterpiece set in which the three performances recorded create a three-way taste. This time we will talk about 8 performances with 3 titles, so let’s create a standard for the whole thing, albeit a little rough. Even if you say “masterpiece audience recording” in one word, the types are different, but they can be roughly divided into three types. One is the “clear type,” which provides ultra-vivid and ultra-clear sound with no sense of air. The second type is the “dynamic type,” which has a strong core but has a deep atmosphere. The third type is the “mood type” where you can enjoy the realistic and dazzling feeling created by the sound and atmosphere unique to audience recording rather than the awesome sound board-like performance sound. When expressed in this classification, the three performances of this work are wonderfully typical of the three classifications. The first “Buffalo performance on March 9th (DISC 1-2)” is a typical dynamic type, combining beauty and strength. The lyrics of the chorus and the nuances of the guitar work are clear, and at the same time, the ensemble is powerful and well-balanced. If you don’t worry about whether it’s at the top of the tour or not, you won’t have any complaints or problems, and on the other hand, it’s a wonderful sound that can be entered into the top competition. “March 11th Boston Performance (DISC 3-4)” is clearer than DISC 1-2. This is also typical of the clear type, and is superior to its thickness in terms of its sharpness of the core and its straightness with no time lag. It’s a vivid and vivid sound like a so-called laser beam. However, this Boston performance has a slightly distorted peak due to the direct feeling. Although it cannot be said to be “sounding beauty”, it is cool like a sound board and easy to listen to…this is a famous recording of that type. And the last “March 13th Manchester performance (DISC 5-6)”. This is a typical “mood type”. It is not superior in clarity or thickness, but it is the type that allows you to feel the scene with your whole body with the inclusiveness of the hall sound. In fact, although it is not a type that can be said to be suitable for beginners, it has an excellent luster with no noise or chatter. It’s an experiential album that’s best if you close your eyes and listen to it while imagining the scene at the venue. Now, along with the sound, the other important thing is the set. Around this time, it has been a long time since they reunited, and they have released a new album. I now have the leeway to change out the sets on a daily basis. Speaking of “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH TOUR”, the official live album “TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT” of the Japanese performance is the standard, so let’s compare and organize the three performances here. Fixed songs (18 songs + α)・Flame Fuse: Runnin’ With The Devil/You Really Got Me/Ice Cream Man/Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love・Legendary Bomber: Somebody Get Me A Doctor/Dance The Night Away/Women In Love/Beautiful Girls・Dark Law: Everybody Wants Some!!・Martial Law: Unchained・Diver Down: (Oh) Pretty Woman・1984: I’ll Wait/Hot For Teacher/Panama/Jump・A・Different Kinds of Truth: She’s The Woman/Tattoo/China Town Daily Songs (6 songs) Dark Law: Romeo Delight (March 9th Buffalo/March 11th Boston) Martial Law: Hear About It Later・Diver Down: The Full Bug (★: March 13th Manchester only) / Hang ‘Em High (★: March 11th Boston only)・1984: Girl Gone Bad (★: March 11th Boston / March 13th Manchester) A Different Kind of Truth: The Trouble With Never (★) *: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on the official live album “TOKYO DOME LIVE IN CONCERT”. …and it looks like this. We create variety by replacing 6 songs with a fixed set of 18 songs. The two songs “Hear About It Later” and “The Trouble With Never” were common to the three performances of this work, but they were songs that changed daily and were not fixed for all performances. Among them, “Hang ‘Em High” is extremely rare. Although it was revived for the first time in 30 years since 1982, it was performed only twice during the reunion era (the Boston performance of this work and the Washington D.C. performance on March 28th). You can enjoy such super rare songs with wonderful sound. In addition to rare songs, the opening of the “March 9th Buffalo Performance (DISC 1-2)” has an impact. There is an image that “Unchained” is the pole position for this tour, but here it starts with “You Really Got Me”. Although it is a lingering scent of 2007/2008, it is also a show where this powerful opening and the freshness of new songs coexist. In terms of sound and content, it is the most listenable show in this work. The reunion with David Lee Roth also lasted nine years, and each period had a different flavor. Among them, 2012 may have been the most unique. The mood was smooth sailing as Dave and his first new work in 28 years reached No. 2 in the US, and they had the luxury of changing sets every day. You can experience a tour where each day is fresh. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was possible to release it in real time because each day was interesting. Such a fulfilling 6-disc set.
