Description

In 1982, VAN HALEN made a leap to a higher level by sending “DIVER DOWN” to number 3 in the United States. Introducing a 4-disc treasured live set that will tell you about these two unknown performances. This work is imbued with two consecutive performances at the same venue. This is a newly discovered audience recording of “August 13 + 14, 1982 Detroit Performance”. No records were known of these two days until now, but they recently appeared for the first time in the original master by the same recording artist. First, let’s check the show’s position from the tour schedule at the time. 1982《“DIVER DOWN” released on April 14th》・July 14th-August 21st: North America #1 (26 performances) ←★Here★・September 1st-25th: North America #2 (17 performances) ) ・October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 performances) 1983 ・January 16th – February 12th: South America (15 performances) ・May 29th: US Festival appearance This is “HIDE YOUR Overall picture of “SHEEP Tour 1982/1983”. In the 1983 edition, the only South American tour in VAN HALEN history and the historic “US Festival” were held, but the actual main tour was only in 1982, all in North America. The Detroit performance of this work was the 19th and 20th performance of “North America #1” in the first half of the year. As mentioned above, these are two performances that I could not hear before, but the sound that conveys that is an audience sound with a sharp edge. The sounds are very similar because both performances were mastered by the same recording artist. Although it is in the category of vintage recording and the sense of distance is reasonable, the details are clear enough to offset that. The freshness that comes from being a master master speaks volumes, and the vividness without distortion caused by dubbing is thrilling. While soaking up the loud applause, a sharp core like a laser beam shoots right into your hands. When I say, “I’m breathing in the applause,” it may seem like I’m full of screams, but that’s not the case. This is also the flavor of this work, and it has a sense of scale that makes you feel like a tremendous enthusiasm extends far into the horizon. This is really amazing. Normally, even when recording from an audience, cheers erupt between songs, and things get quiet during the performance. However, the enthusiasm for this work never stops. Of course, during the performance, it drops a little, but it continues to rise without disappearing, as if it was an AM broadcast that deliberately overdubbed the loud cheers and failed to lower it in the mix. And, the performance sound and Dave’s vocals easily cut through such loud cheers. It is a recording where you can feel how popular VAN HALEN was at the time, and enjoy the live performance as well. Moreover, this work further improves the original sound. In fact, the treble that was too harsh in the original sound was alleviated and the overall balance was adjusted. Throughout the two performances, we achieved a sound that you can fully immerse yourself in. What is depicted with such sharp sound is a full show that concentrates the flavor of the original VH. Speaking of “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour”, the pro shots of the US festival are famous, so let’s organize the sets while comparing them. ・Flame Fuse: Runnin’ With The Devil/Jamies Cryin’/Ice Cream Man/Eruption/Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love/You Really Got Me ・Legendary Bomber: Somebody Dance The Night Away/Get Me A Doctor / D.O.A. (★) / Bottoms Up!・Dark Law: Romeo Delight / Everybody Wants Some!!・Martial Law: Unchained・Diver Down: Where Have All Those Good Times Gone! (★) / Hang ‘Em High (★) /Little Guitars/Cathedral/Secrets/Intruder/Oh! Pretty Women/The Full Bug/Happy Trails *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard even in the “US Festival 1983” pro shot. …and it looks like this. The set was the same for both performances, and the three songs that could not be heard at the US festival are rare even from a career perspective. “Hang ‘Em High” was only performed twice during the reunion era, but “Where Have All Those Good Times Gone!” is a limited song only for this tour, and even “D.O.A.” was performed at a limited number of venues. A number that was only played at. “DIVER DOWN” itself had a colorful style, but its variety allows you to enjoy a full show with even more vivid entertainment colors. Even so, it’s incredibly popular and has tremendous momentum. I thought I knew how amazing they were through their numerous studio masterpieces and chart records, but the amount of energy they had at the front line of the show was beyond my imagination. This work is a live album where you can experience such enthusiasm and live performance in its entirety in two performances…or rather, it is a documentary album. A newly discovered audience recording set of two performances “August 13th + 14th 1982 Detroit Performances” for which no records were known until now. As a master master, the clarity is wonderful without any distortion caused by dubbing, and the sharp core hits your finger like a laser beam. And the enthusiasm surrounding the entire show is amazing. There are no harsh up-close voices, but there is a huge spectacle in the distance that does not stop whether it is between songs or during the performance. It is a big document where you can enjoy the two live performances while feeling how popular VAN HALEN was at the time.
