These two DVDs are collections of R&B and funk from the American music program, Don Kirshner Rock Concert. We aimed to record each song completely, and although some of them contain time codes, we collected as much high-quality footage as possible. The O’Jays and Billy Preston’s live performances in their heyday are already amazing. Al Wilson’s hit “Show & Tell,” Ike & Tina Turner’s spectacular live stage, the super funk of Cameo, Isley’s guitar, Mandrill’s indigenous funk, Lionel Richie’s keyboard work and singing voice, and Smokey Robinson’s famous song Ooh Baby, Baby live performance will move you to tears. Tower of Power’s young appearance and the funk they produce, as well as the soulfulness of TOP’s popular vocalist Lenny Williams are irresistible. The performance of Yarbrough & Peoples’ refreshing tune “You’re My Song,” reminiscent of Yamatatsu, is not included in its entirety, but its charm is still fully conveyed. And you can only see the performance footage of Roth Royce in his prime here. Also, Prince covered Sylvester’s “Dance Disco Heat” during the 20Ten tour, and I’m sure Prince saw that performance. Total 4 hours and 20 minutes. Funk soul fans will be very satisfied.
