Description

“The miraculous year of 1972” saw the “Golden Five” come together and release two great albums, “The Devil and the Wizard” and “The Devil’s Feast.” An exquisite live album that conveys the scene is now available. There are three types of sound sources included in this work. This is a disc that mainly contains the audience recording of “May 21, 1972 Germersheim Performance”, and additionally includes sound board recordings such as valuable BBC sessions and the famous program “IN CONCERT”. The latter two types of soundboards are just bonuses with a few songs each. Let’s start with the main Germersheim performance. This show was part of the West German music festival “2nd BRITISH ROCK MEETING”, and they appeared on the second day of the three days when PINK FLOYD was the headliner. Also, as mentioned at the beginning, 1972 was a busy and special year for URIAH HEEP. The meaning changes depending on the time of year, so let’s look back at the schedule in some detail.・January 1st-6th: Italy (6 performances) ・January 13th-31st: North America #1a (22 performances) [February 1st: Mark Clark leaves → Gary Sane joins] ・February 2nd Sunday – March 10th: North America #1b (22 performances) March 29th – May 18th: Europe #1a (31 performances) ← *MUNSTER 1972《“DEMONS AND WIZARDS” released on May 19th》・5 June 19th-June 19th: Europe #1b (23 performances) ←★Coco★・June 24th-August 5th: North America #2 (31 performances)・August 12th-24th: Europe #2 (4 performances) September 14th – October 6th: Europe #3 (4 performances) October 13th – 31st: North America #3a (14 performances)《“THE MAGICIAN’S BIRTHDAY” released on November 1st》・November 2nd – December 17th: North America #3b (29 performances) This is URIAH HEEP’s 1972. From the looks of it, it was packed full of live music and extremely crowded. The “Golden Five” was completed with the addition of Gary Thayne, but at that time it was a feat of changing members in just two days, and they also produced two historic masterpieces. In the first place, the above dates are only cut out from “1972”, and the Italian tour at the beginning continues from New Year’s Eve of the previous year, and the UK tour started on January 7th the following year, 1973. It was a murderous schedule that I can’t even imagine how I survived. Under such circumstances, this BRITISH ROCK MEETING performance is the third performance of “Europe #1b”, which will be held immediately after the release of “The Devil and the Wizard”. At our store, we have introduced the masterpiece live album “MUNSTER 1972 (Uxbridge 1313)”, but this work was a concert about 3 weeks later. This work recorded at such a show has a wonderful powerful and thick sound. Although it is a vintage audience to the last, the midrange, which tends to be sparse, is so responsive that you can feel the mass, and the deep bass is powerful enough to shake your five organs and kick your six senses. Even though it is so powerful, it has an excellent sense of stability that does not shake, and you can clearly enjoy Sein’s singing bass. Actually, at the beginning there is a bit of a feeling of lumpiness for an outdoor festival, but that also improves around the third song “Easy Livin’”. The clarity has improved and the clarity is comparable to the bonus recorded BBC sound board. What is depicted with such a great sound is a full show in which the band’s potential explodes, gaining momentum with the hit of “Anti-Jikoku” and creating the masterpiece “Devil and the Wizard”. This day was also a festival appearance, and they had about an hour to perform. This work includes a complete recording of the entire story. Now, let’s organize the contents, including the bonus tracks. Main story: 2nd BRITISH ROCK MEETING・First (1 song): Gypsy・Salisbury (1 song): Bird Of Prey (★)・Anti-nuclear (4 songs): I Wanna Be Free (★)/July Morning/Look At Yourself/Love Machine/The Devil and the Wizard (3 songs): Easy Livin’/Rainbow Demon (★)/The Wizard (★) Bonus SBD/Anti-Nuke (2 songs): Look At Yourself/What Should Be Done (★ )・Demon’s Feast (1 song): Sweet Lorraine・Sweet Freedom (1 song): Stealin’ (★) *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard even on the official traditional edition “URIAH HEEP LIVE”. …and it looks like this. The set, which includes delicious songs such as “Bird Of Prey,” “I Wanna Be Free,” and “Rainbow Demon,” as well as the two albums “Anti-Jikoku” and “The Devil and the Wizard,” is special, and is simply a collection of masterpieces. Rather, the performance is far more passionate than the studio version. The performance, which has not yet gotten used to, is really fresh, and while the beat and momentum are wild, the thick chorus with Lee Kerslake is beautiful. The hard rock that brings together the extremes of beauty and intensity and rushes forward is the very essence of British rock in the 1970s. And the on-site feeling of confronting it is also super realistic. In addition to the growing enthusiasm, the biggest thing to listen to is Orasu’s “Love Machine.” As the intro roars, the excited audience rushes onto the stage, causing an incident that interrupts the live performance. This is amazing. It’s unclear who it is, but a staff member or member poisons the audience through the microphone, and the performance collapses in the chaos. And then there was the roar of anger at the announcement of the show being interrupted… Speaking of URIAH HEEP, there is an image of “orderly and beautiful” among the 70’s HR groups, but at the peak of their music, their music, performances, and popularity were intense. This work lets you experience that reality all at once. Even after such a full show, the FM sound board’s boat truck is delicious. The two songs on “Anti-Nuke” are BBC sessions recorded on “October 20, 1971,” and the rhythm section is Paul Newton/Ian Clarke, just like on the album. Although it is a studio live performance, the live performance of “What Should Be Done” is valuable. The remaining two songs are live takes of “IN CONCERT” recorded on “September 28, 1973”. In 1972, URIAH HEEP was at the center of the new music “hard rock” scene, releasing a series of historic masterpieces. They would later lose momentum, but at this time they were definitely pioneers of British hardware comparable to LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE. A collection of masterpiece recordings and valuable soundboard takes that convey the scene.
