Description
This work includes professional shots of TV broadcasts. A master produced by overseas enthusiasts, it is a compilation of 6 programs and 10 songs (+ interviews) in which ULTRAVOX appeared in 1980/1981. In addition, two promo clips have been added, making it a piece where you can enjoy pro shots from the time for about an hour at once. Now, let’s introduce each one individually. [1981: Netherlands “COUNTDOWN” (4 songs + α)] The first Dutch program to appear is the highest quality and longest Dutch program in this work. You can watch not only the live performances of the four songs “New Europeans”, “Vienna”, “Passing Strangers”, and “All Stood Still”, but also valuable sound checks and interviews. Also, “New Europeans” and “All Stood Still” are delicious live. This work includes six programs, most of which feature “Vienna” and “Passing Strangers.” In that respect, because this program only has four songs, other songs are also followed, and it’s especially nice to see “New Europeans”, which is familiar to Japanese people in a whiskey commercial. [August 16, 1980: Performance in St. Albans, UK (2 songs)] Next, they played two songs, “Sleepwalk” and “Vienna”, on stage in their home country of England. The same can be said for “COUNTDOWN” above, but I was surprised by the super-superior image quality. The image quality is completely official DVD class, and the visual beauty is dazzling even in the modern digital age. Also, the dynamic and active camera work in this video is amazing. The switching is quick, and even a single cut moves boldly, making it feel like MTV in the late 80’s. It is a video that boasts a level of perfection comparable to that of an elaborate PV. [1980: West Germany “ROCK POP” (1 song) / America “KOOL-TV” (1 song)] Also includes one song each from West German and American programs. In particular, West Germany’s “ROCK POP” is unique in this work. In many of the other videos, white costumes stand out against the dark stage, but this is mime inside a broadcasting station, the costumes are elaborate, and Midge sings with all her might, looking straight at the camera. Although it is not as elaborate as the clip, it is a video that allows you to enjoy a different appearance from the stage. [1980/1981: UK “TOP OF THE POPS” (2 songs)] And speaking of mime, the famous program “TOP OF THE POPS” from his home country of England is also very powerful. “Sleepwalk” that appeared in 1980 is like a real live performance, but “Vienna” in 1981 is a completely different world. Midge appears in leather and studs, and the chin strap of the hat is replaced by a chain. A unique world unfolds in which ballet dancers imitate the clip, singing as if they were JUDAS PRIEST or QUEEN, and dancing on Billy Curley’s violin. [1981: Netherlands “TopPop” / Promo clip (2 songs)] The last part is an interview broadcast on the famous Dutch program “TopPop” and promo clips for “Passing Strangers” and “Vienna”. “Passing Strangers,” in which the actors are on the run, but the three characters except Midge have been left alone for a while, and “Vienna,” where the Viennese scenery and surreal party venue create a uniquely European mood… You can watch nostalgic videos in high quality. Each one is a masterpiece video of the best master, and since they have appeared on programs around the world, you can see how they were attracting attention from all over the world at that time. This work itself is an hour-long video work, and at the same time, it is a piece that turns the “1980 scent” that rises from the main press CD into a spectacle.
