Description

ULTRAVOX in 1979 was in a state of collapse countdown towards the biggest turning point. This is a powerful soundboard album that allows you to enjoy the stage of John Foxx in the final days. This work records the “Buffalo performance on March 4, 1979”. It is a soundboard recording. Speaking of 1979, the year when John was replaced by Midge Ure, was a major turning point for both of them. As the meaning changes completely depending on the time, let’s take a closer look at the schedule at that time. 1978 January 20th – March 12th: Europe #1 (30 performances) {Steve Sears → Robin Simon replacement} April 11th – 13th: UK (3 performances) August 19th – September 2nd: Europe #2a (7 performances) {September 8th “SYSTEMS OF ROMANCE” released》・September 12th – December 26th: Europe #2b (37 shows)《December 31st: dropped by Island label》1979・January 5th: San Francisco (2 shows)・February 23rd – March 14th: North America #1 (10 shows)←★Here★《Disbanded → Midge Ure joins》・November 2nd: Liverpool show・November 19th – December 30th: North America #2 (5 shows)This is ULTRAVOX in 1978/1979. The number of shows and other details differ depending on the source, so please don’t take the details for granted, but I think you can understand the general flow. With a change of guitarist from Steve Sears to Robin Simon and the “!” removed from the band name, they released “SYSTEMS OF ROMANCE”. Sales were better than the previous two, but still did not meet the expectations of his label Island, and he was fired at the end of the year. The following year, 1979, he went on a self-financed mini-tour called “North America #1”, but disbanded after it ended. John went solo, and ULTRAVOX restarted with Midge. The Buffalo performance in this work was just before that turning point. It was a concert in the middle of “North America #1”. This work, recorded at such a show, is an ultra-tight, extra-thick soundboard. Although it is called a “soundboard” in a word, there are many different types, but this work has strong John’s vocals and performance sounds. A close-up style that dominates the whole story. Although cheers can be heard between songs, they are too far away and the experience of a concert cannot be expected. Of course, that is not a bad thing. Instead of a fragment of mood production, the reality of live performance is pushed to the front, and the sense of synchronization that the stage is built in the brain is amazing. Although the master freshness is unknown and there is a slight hiss, the permanent preservation press has been missed, but the overwhelming direct is unparalleled. The stage that should be called the final settlement of the John Fox era is drawn with that extra thick sound. If you have noticed this article, you may know the Boston performance FM sound board from the previous day, but this work is much longer. Let’s organize the set while comparing it here. ULTRAVOX Ultravox! : Slip Away (★) / My Sex HA! HA! HA! : The Man Who Dies Every Day (★) / Hiroshima Mon Amour / Artificial Life / ROckWrok・System of Romance: Slow Motion / Just For A Moment / Quiet Men / I Can’t Stay Long (★) / Someone Else’s Clothes (★) / Blue Light Others・Metal Beat: Touch And Go / He’s A Liquid・Unreleased Song: Radio Beach (★) *Note: The ★ mark indicates a song that cannot be heard on the FM soundboard at the Boston performance. …And so it goes. The album is centered around six songs from the new album “SYSTEMS OF ROMANCE,” and condenses and reduces the repertoire from John’s three albums during his time. However, it also includes “Touch And Go (Mr. X),” “He’s A Liquid,” and “Radio Beach,” which will be included in John’s “METAMATIC.” In particular, “Radio Beach” is an unreleased song that has not yet been released by either ULTRAVOX or John’s solo work. You can enjoy the super rare songs that were only confirmed on this day of live performance on the sound board. Even just this one take has great historical value. In the spring of 1979, they were so creative that they produced new songs one after another, but they were counting down to disbanding. This is a record that allows you to enjoy such historical live performances and super rare unreleased songs on an extremely thick sound board. This is the definitive edition that you should collect alongside “SYSTEMS OF ROMANCE”. Sound board recording of the “Buffalo performance on March 4, 1979”, which was the end of the John Fox era. It is a close-knit sound board where John’s vocals and performance sounds dominate the entire work, and instead of the experience of a concert, the sense of synchronization with the live performance is intense. You can enjoy a show that condenses and reduces the masterpieces of the first three albums, and interweaves “Touch And Go (Mr. X)” and “He’s A Liquid”, which will be included in “METAMATIC”. The unreleased song “Radio Beach” only on this day is a historical super treasure. Stage One, Buffalo, New York, USA 4th March 1979 SBD (68:58) 01. The Man Who Dies Every Day 02. Slip Away 03.
