Although Uli Jon Roth has not released an album since the release of “UNDER A DARK SKY” in 2008, he has been performing live more actively than ever, giving wonderful performances in the United States and European countries. In particular, during his North American tour from January to March 2013, he performed a special set in which most of the live performance was SCORPIONS numbers, commemorating the 40th anniversary of Uli joining SCORPIONS. This tour attracted a lot of attention not only from European and American fans, but also from Japanese fans. From the 2013 North American tour, which has had multiple live recordings released since the tour, this time we present the live video from Kenosha, Wisconsin on February 15th, in superb quality! The live performance started with “All Night Long,” which SCORPIONS only performed live when Uli was a member. Fans are familiar with the take of “TOKYO TAPES”, but no one could have predicted that a live performance would start with this song again in 2013, 35 years later. The video is a multi-camera specification edited from multiple audience shots, and it is recorded with outstanding clarity and visibility, from the whole view of the stage to the close-up of the player. In particular, the main shot taken from the front row on the left side of the stage is powerful, and Uri’s guitar play is captured in detail and clearly. The accurate picking and impressive arming are interesting images for those who play guitar (in some scenes, you feel like you’re watching a professional shot. Also, Uri tuning between songs is a must-see). The sound is excellent like a line sound source, and the quality is sure to satisfy all fans. It is not just a sprinkling of famous songs from the SCORPIONS era, but also a selection of songs that will make even enthusiasts groan. This tendency is especially strong in the first half, where they play surprising numbers such as “Longing For Fire” from “IN TRANCE”, “Crying Days” from “VIRGIN KILLER”, and “A Day Late And A Dollar Short” which Uri played on Ian Gillan’s “GILLAN’S INN”. However, from the middle of the live “Life’s Like A River” onwards, there are a lot of songs that any Japanese SCORPIONS fan will enjoy. A number of songs suitable for a special tour, such as “The Sails Of Charon” (featuring violin by guest Rachel Barton Pine) where you can enjoy Uri’s heavy guitar, “They Need A Million” which is a hidden masterpiece from “FLY TO THE RAINBOW”, and rare numbers from “IN TRANCE” such as “Sun In My Head” and “Evening Wind”, are revived with outstanding playing and arrangement. The vocalist here is Henning Basse of the German band SONS OF SEASONS. As expected of someone who was chosen by Uri, he has a strong talent and delivers powerful vocals in numbers such as “We’ll Burn The Sky,” “Pictured Life,” and “Catch Your Train.” The climax of the live performance was the performance of covers of Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along The Watchtower,” “If 6 Was 9,” and “Little Wing,” concluding the 163-minute live performance. The live performance lasted more than two and a half hours and was full of things to listen to and see. Although the songs were mostly from the past, it made us realize that Uri has risen to even greater heights as a musician and guitarist. This is a two-disc set (with an original menu, of course!) that would normally be released. Please enjoy Uri’s great performance to the fullest!
