Description
The most important audience source among the live recordings of UFO in the 1970s has been decided to be released! This work, which was recorded on the Palo Alto, California performance on October 29th, which was the last live performance while Michael Schenker was enrolled, from the 1978 “OBSESSION” US tour, is based on a high-quality audience master brought from overseas, and is an absolute must-have for fans of UFO and Michael! Although UFO released “LIGHTS OUT” in 1977, the album sales were excellent despite the incident of Michael disappearing during the tour (it can be said that the performance of Paul Chapman, who replaced Michael on the 1977 US tour, was also a big factor). With the album making it to the top of the US charts, UFO was finally within reach of a huge success in the US market. The band, who considered their next work to be the real challenge, produced “OBSESSION” with Ron Nevison as producer, following “LIGHTS OUT”. They released the album in June 1978 and began a full-scale US tour in July. The single “Only You Can Rock Me” from the new album was a hit, and the tour, which mainly featured Blue Oyster Cult as a support band, received a great response in various places. The shows were sold out every day. The momentum and power of the UFO live at that time can be seen in the official live “Strangers in the Night” which includes the Chicago and Louisville performances in October. It seemed that UFO’s domination of the US was imminent, but Michael was already under a lot of stress from his relationship with Phil Mogg and the harsh tour, and his alcohol problems were also becoming serious. It was this “OBSESSION” tour that brought him to his limit. He left UFO at the end of the US tour, returned to Germany, and chose to form the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP. The Palo Alto “Mapless Pavilion” performance on October 29th, recorded in this work, was the final day of the “OBSESSION” US tour, and also Michael and UFO’s last gig in the ’70s. This work allows you to listen to a 50-minute performance of a significant live performance in both careers with a valuable audience source! The opening announcement immediately after playing the disc and the first song “Hot ‘n’ Ready” show the audience’s excitement, and the listener can vividly experience the mood and power of the heyday of UFO’s live performance. Everyone will be convinced of the master quality with a sound image that is free of muddiness and distortion and a sound with a certain brightness and visibility. And the band’s performance is hotter than the enthusiastic audience. The powerful tone with a rich direct feeling is wonderful in “Pack It Up” and “Cherry”. It is especially important that you can hear Michael’s guitar clearly. You can enjoy the sharp guitar sound of “Cherry” and the dramatic yet delicate playing of “Love To Love”. This sound further enhances the meaning and value of this work as “Michael and UFO’s last live performance”. Since this performance was the opening of ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION, the total performance time was limited. However, the set list was made up of songs that were selected like a best album without any unnecessary parts. From the middle of the live performance, “Only You Can Rock Me”, “Doctor Doctor”, “Lights Out”, “Rock Bottom”, and “Too Hot To Handle”, the development is like “STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT” and is a masterpiece! In the 10-minute long “Rock Bottom”, Michael’s long solo is particularly amazing. The “adage” whispered among maniacs that “Michael plays better solos in difficult situations” is easy to agree with. This will knock out both the audience and the listeners! Live at Maples Pavillion, Palo Alto, CA. USA 29th October 1978 TRULY AMAZING SOUND 1. Intro. 2. Hot ‘n’ Ready 3. Pack It Up (And Go) 4.
