Description

Paul Chapman passed away suddenly at the age of 66. Introducing the finest soundboard album excavated in memory of him. This work includes “March 13, 1981 Chicago Performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording. Those who thought “huh?” at the combination of the date “March 13th” and “Chicago” are sharp. In fact, “CHICAGO 1982,” which we introduced the day before and received great acclaim, was also held on “March 13th,” and the venue was the same, “INTERNATIONAL AMPHITHEATER.” Of course, they were held in “1982” and “1983,” and they were two different concerts with different performances and sets, but it was quite a strange coincidence. They performed live in Chicago for three years in a row). In any case, this show is also an act of “THE WILD, THE WILLING AND THE INNOCENT TOUR”. First, let’s look back at the show’s position from the schedule at that time. [“Wild/Willing/Incent” released on January 6th] ・January 13th-31st: UK (18 performances) ・February 6th-March 17th: North America #1 (19 performances) ←★Here ★・April 18th – May 27th: North America #2 (8 performances) ・July 3rd – 5th: Spain (3 performances) ・July 28th – August 13th: North America #33 (7 performances)・September 6th/November 14th/December 30th + 31st: North America #4 (4 performances) This is UFO in 1981. Immediately after the release of the album “THE WILD, THE WILLING AND THE INNOCENT”, they began a tour from their native England, but the main objective was clearly to invade the United States. The Chicago performance of this work was the 16th concert of “North America #1”, which was the beginning of the show. This work, which recorded such a show, is truly the finest stereo sound board. It was simulcast on an FM broadcast station at the time, and it seems to be somewhere between official style and direct-to-the-table style. The stereo mix, with its vivid panning and dynamic panning, gives off plenty of the flavor of direct-to-the-table music, while also evoking loud applause between songs. The rough feel with howling in places is really rock solid, but it doesn’t have the whiteness that tends to occur when it’s connected directly to a desk. It’s a really delicious sound board. The sound depicts a full show with groovy guitars that bring out the UFO-like quality. When it comes to the Chapman era, the official version “REGENERATOR: LIVE 1982” is famous, so let’s organize the set while comparing. Schenker era (7 songs) – Phenomenon: Rock Bottom (★) / Doctor Doctor (★) – New murderous intent: Love to Love / Too Hot to Handle / Lights Out – Conquest of space: Only You Can Rock Me / Cherry (★) Chapman era (6 songs) Heavy Metal Experience: No Place to Run/Mystery Train ・Wild, the Willing and the Innocent/Long Gone/Lonely Heart (★)/Makin’ Moves * Note: Songs marked with “★” are not available on the official version “REGENERATOR: LIVE 1982”. …and it looks like this. There are four songs in the repertoire that cannot be heard on the official version, but the most delicious one is probably “Lonely Heart.” Not only is it a rare song that was only played on this tour, but it is also not included on the classic 1981 soundboard “WILD ONE: LONDON 1981 (Power Gate-245)”. It is a rare sound board that is unique to this work. Of course, the highlight is not only the rare songs but also the performances throughout the set. UFO became famous for Michael Schenker’s crying guitar, but their essence is more of a straight rock’n’roll groove and Phil Mogg’s melancholy. Chapman’s guitar fits perfectly with that essence, and his sense of unity with Pete Way and Andy Parker is undoubtedly the best of all time. What’s more, Neil Carter creates a melancholy sense of melody, so it doesn’t fall into mere rock’n’roll. In fact, it brings out the appeal of UFOs even more than the Schenker & Raymond system. After Schenker left, Paul Chapman supported UFO…in fact, it was Paul Chapman who built a golden age even greater than the Schenker era. This is a valuable full soundboard album where you can enjoy the stage of the 80’s in the highest quality.
