Description
“THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 1987” never made it to Japan, despite being a rare super-famous album and a century-old success. The legendary storyteller album that has been passed down from the scene is set to be released. Anyway, the desire in 1987 was earnest. Since their legendary first visit to Japan, U2 has grown huge in the blink of an eye. Following the masterpiece “THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE”, the miraculous masterpiece “THE JOSHUA TREE” swept the world and even became the era itself. However, no news of a visit to Japan came, and before we knew it, the tour was over and “RATTLE AND HUM” was released… We had no choice but to take a peek at “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 1987” from the live take included in it. Bootlegs soothed that desire. Among them, the triple LP “WE ARE WAITING FOR A RIGHT DAY” was called a masterpiece. A narrator who conveyed almost the full show with the best sound, not just a few fragmented takes… This work is a live album that precisely reproduces the legendary LP digitally. What flows from this work is that “legendary sound”. The direct feeling that was extraordinary at the time, the clarity with almost no reverberation, and the detailed delicacy even in the chorus that occurs in new songs… Even in today’s world where excavation has progressed, the sound world is unparalleled in clarity, yet also filled with the response of analog. The sound that has been repeated many times and dozens of times is revived with the freshness of the first playback. Moreover, this work even carries the “smell” of the analog era. Most of the performance is “Modena on May 29, 1987”, but a concert was also held in Modena the next day (May 30). This work reproduces the long show recorded on both days. However, not only that, but (for some reason) a completely unrelated recording from two years ago (1985) is also mixed in. To list them all…Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door (February 5th Bologna), Rain/Hard Rain Gonna Fall (June 22nd Milton Keynes), My Hometown (June 29th Dublin), Southern Man (February 1st Mannheim) All of them are covers of Bob Dylan, Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, etc. Of course, since the theme of this work is “legendary analog itself”, these parts are also recorded unedited. They were probably recorded in the empty space on the 6th side of the LP. All of them are of high quality comparable to the main part, but they are rough if you want to call it that. Even this feeling of “one more song” and “delicious famous cover song” gives off the dusty scent of analog bootlegs. The “dryness” I felt at that time, the “expectation” of going home with an expensive analog triple-disc set, and the “joy” of dropping the needle and hearing a sound that exceeded my expectations… This is a storytelling album that brings back the scent of that room and that era when I listened to it alternately with the masterpiece “THE JOSHUA TREE.” Taken from the original 3LP “We Are Waiting For A Right Day” (Shadow Play Records, SPR 30130) Disc 1(56:46) 1.
