Description

In 1989, U2 had conquered the entire planet with their consecutive hits “THE JOSHUA TREE” and “RATTLE AND HUM.” The best original recording that recorded the performance in Japan is now available. This work includes “November 25, 1989: Tokyo Dome Performance”. This is a masterpiece audience recording. Since it was a monumental Japan tour, our store also archives many masterpieces. First, let’s organize the collection from the schedule at that time.・November 23rd: Yokohama Arena “WHEN LOVE COMES TO JAPAN” ・November 25th: Tokyo Dome ←★This work★ ・November 26th: Tokyo Dome “LOVE RESCUE ME” ・November 28th: Osaka Castle Hall・November 29th: Osaka Castle Hall ・December 1st: Osaka Castle Hall “OSAKA 1989 FINAL NIGHT” Total of 6 performances: 3 performances in Kanto + 3 performances in Osaka. The highlight was their performance at the Tokyo Dome, which had just opened the previous year, and U2 was the 8th group to perform on the “Big Egg” stage. This work is an audience recording that recorded the first day. This work, which records such a show, is a beautiful recording far away from the dome. This is a recording that was previously introduced as “LOVE COMES TO DOME”, but it is an upgrade version of that. “LOVE COMES TO DOME” was also an original master, but it was a 1st generation cassette master. On the other hand, this work is the ultimate version made into a CD from the original DAT master given by the recording person himself. In fact, the upgrade is eye-opening. At the time of “LOVE COMES TO DOME”, I couldn’t imagine Tokyo Dome having severe acoustics, but Omoto DAT was even more vivid. The atmosphere becomes even more transparent, and the details are clearly improved. In particular, the bass edge is wonderful, and this is the first time I’ve noticed that it was lost during dubbing on the previous version. Of course, the sense of distance is not zero, which can be mistaken for a sound board, but it sounds like the sense of distance itself is several tens of meters closer. While “LOVE COMES TO DOME” had the dimension of “great for the early Tokyo Dome,” this work has a sound that makes you wonder, “Is this really a dome recording!?” The upgraded sound depicts U2 who were enjoying the spring of our world. Speaking of “LOVETOWN TOUR”, the Dublin performance was also officialized as “LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT”, so let’s organize the set while comparing. ●THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE (2 songs)・MLK/Pride (In The Name Of Love) ●THE JOSHUA TREE (5 songs)・Where The Streets Have No Name/I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For/Running To Stand Still ・Songs that cannot be heard on LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT: With Or Without You/Bullet The Blue Sky ●RATTLE AND HUM (8 songs) ・God Part II/Desire/All Along The Watchtower/All I Want Is You/Van Diemen’s Land/Angel Of Harlem/When Love Comes To Town (★)/Love Rescue Me (★) ●Others (3 songs)・I Will Follow “BOY”/40 “WAR”・Songs that cannot be heard on LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT: People Get Ready (THE IMPRESSIONS cover) *Note: “★” indicates co-starring with B.B. King. …and it looks like this. The three songs that are not in “LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT” are delicious, but even more amazing is the unique Japanese mood that runs through the whole story. After all, from the opening song, “Where The Streets Have No Name,” Bono appears, saying, “Osu, Tokyo!” “Even at the beginning of I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, the Japanese MC says, “Good evening, everyone.” Speaking of the MC between songs, Bono’s comments exude a strong “1989 flavor.” “Bullet The Blue Sky,” led by the American national anthem, sings, “Tonight here we feel the power to tear apart the Iron Curtain (of the Cold War). Tonight, we feel the power to carry out China’s transformation! ”, and the opening line of “Love Rescue Me” is “Let’s change everything with rock’n’roll. Let’s have power” and “We sing for the people living in communist East Berlin, Czechoslovakia, and behind the Iron Curtain.” And I dedicate this song to the people of China, to the brave people who fought against the regime in Beijing,” sending a powerful message. “Those who fought in Beijing” refers to the Tiananmen Incident that occurred six months before the show. Even more special is “People Get Ready.” In the middle of the song, Bono starts saying, “Does anyone want to play my guitar?” (in English) and then shouts twice in Japanese, “Please play my guitar.” A member of the audience appeared on stage and played, perhaps because he had been selected in advance, and this person was an exceptionally good guitar player. Bono excitedly shouted, “Let’s listen to this man’s guitar,” and the entire dome erupted with “Oh, yeah!!”. The highlight of the show, which continues to heat up even more, is the collaboration with B.B. King. First, B.B. King’s backing members appeared on stage and performed the gorgeous “Angel Of Harlem” with brass, and then the great B.B. King appeared. They co-star in “When Love Comes To Town” and “Love Rescue Me.” As of 2019, 30 years have passed since the release of this work, and their first performance in Japan in 13 years is fast approaching. Just as this film talked about the Tiananmen Incident, this time there may be encouragement for the Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrations. This is an original DAT master that jumps over 30 years and brings us back to U2 at its peak. A masterpiece live album that is most suitable for the “now” when a complete reproduction of the historic “THE JOSHUA TREE” is imminent. ★From the original DAT master. Not only will the sound quality improve, but you’ll also be able to listen to the correct pitch for the first time. (The previous release was nearly a semitone higher.
