Description

U2’s first visit to Japan was so wonderful and historic. Moreover, the very first day of their first visit was also recorded famously. Therefore, we decided to let you experience that monumental live album. That’s why this work contains the very first day, “November 22, 1983: Osaka Festival Hall performance”. It is the best audience recording. It is more than enough and wonderfully clear. There is little audience noise, and their appearance challenging the “first Japanese stage” is vividly revived. The sound depicts a fresh first stage with a sense of tension. Like many Western bands, their first visit to Japan is also their first time in Asia. There are non-English countries in Europe, but they are surrounded by fundamentally different grooves and cultures, and they are facing the “wave of black hair” for the first time in their lives. On the first day in Tokyo, after “Twilight”, there was an MC regretting their TV appearance, but in this work, they loudly declare “Tonight is the first night in Japan”. Even before the last number “40”, he says “I wish I could speak your language (Japanese)…”, but you can see that he speaks each word clearly in as simple English as possible. For the Japanese, this was a first experience for them. The audience noise in this work is modest, but it is still clear that it is a huge frenzy. Although there is a breathtaking tension at the start of the show, it loosens with each song, and at first, between songs, and even during the performance, yellow screams rise from all over the place. The fans were also nervous on the day. The tension was swept away by U2’s passionate performance, and the enthusiasm of the audience fed back to U2, giving them confidence… The feeling of relief (?) at such a success can be seen in the MC in the middle. Before “I Fall Down”, he says with a hint of self-mockery, “Last night, we enjoyed the world of music business.” As you can see from the schedule in the main commentary, “last night” refers to the failed TV appearance. Of course, when you’re in a mentally unstable state, there’s no room for self-deprecating jokes. At the beginning of the show, Bono was simply and sincerely expressing his gratitude to the fans, but perhaps his mental composure that the show was going well brought back the memory of last night, when he was shocked. The main character of this work is undoubtedly U2’s live performance, but in this way, it is also a first-class wonderful record as a documentary album. This is the first day of the “legendary first visit to Japan,” which only happens once. It was the night when U2 first met their Japanese fans and when Japanese fans first touched them. It is a masterpiece of a documentary album that clearly absorbs the atmosphere of the scene. Live at Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan 22nd November 1983 TRULY AMAZING/PERFECT SOUND (79:18) 1.
