A historic masterpiece… no, a phenomenon that symbolizes the era itself, “THE JOSHUA TREE”. “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2017” to commemorate its 30th anniversary has finally begun. The first report is a superb live album with undoubtedly the No. 1 sound (at the moment). This tour was announced last Christmas. Along with the announcement of the new album “SONGS OF EXPERIENCE”, a special tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “THE JOSHUA TREE” was announced. First, let’s take a look at the whole picture of the tour. ・May 12-26: North America #1 (7 performances) ←★Here★ ・June 3-July 1: North America #2 (14 performances) ・July 8-August 1: Europe (12 performances) That’s a total of 33 performances. The one included in this work is the “Santa Clara performance on May 17, 2017”. It is the third concert of the tour. Although it is a very early one, this work is not just an early release album. In fact, at this very moment, maniacs all over the world are in a frenzy. Currently, U2 has finished “North America #1” and is taking about a week off, but the maniacs have already summarized the recording of “North America #1”, and this work was the number one recording. In fact, the sound of this work is really wonderful. What is amazing is the direct feeling of the musical tones and singing voices. In fact, U2’s recordings, which have many huge stadium venues, have a sense of distance and are taken for granted, and there was even a trend to enjoy the atmosphere and echo. Of course, this work is also an audience recording that absorbed the enthusiasm of the venue, but the core of the musical tones is as bold as a line recording, and the details are extremely detailed. Although it is not enough to be mistaken for a sound board, even one drum hit and one guitar arpeggio can be enjoyed with a sense of touch. It is irresistible because it is drawn with such a sound, “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2017”, which is making a fuss all over the world. The core of the show is the performance of all the songs from the album, but the opening starts with a set of famous songs to warm up the mood and the engine. This is the usual way of album reproduction shows performed by various bands, but here too, a twist has been put into it. The selected songs are two songs from 1983’s “WAR” → three songs from 1984’s “THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE”. This is very effective. Of course, this flow is the flow of the early 1980s leading up to “THE JOSHUA TREE”. The scent of the birth of the masterpiece is shown in a digest, and the expectation accumulates unconsciously. Many bands have reproduced masterpieces up until now, but “non-masterpieces” are often rather haphazard, and in most cases they simply warm up with famous songs. It is a wonderful production that is unlikely to have existed and that I would like all bands to imitate in the future. And then there is the reproduction part of the main part “THE JOSHUA TREE”. After all, it is a historical masterpiece, so there are many standard songs, but it is amazing to push them all at once like this. In particular, the first four songs, “Where the Streets Have No Name”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, “With or Without You” and “Bullet the Blue Sky”, were brought to a climax at once, and it was as luxurious as an encore. After that, rare songs and arrangements were gradually performed one after another. While mixing fragments of various songs, “In God’s Country” and “Exit”, which have not been performed since 1989, and “Trip Through Your Wires” since 1987 were performed one after another. The best one is “Red Hill Mining Town”. This is a masterpiece that was performed for the first time on this reproduction tour. It can be heard with the clearest sound currently. The main part of the show ended with the “THE JOSHUA TREE” part, and the encore was a rush of famous songs from recent years. There was also a surprise here, and “The Little Things That Give You Away” from the new album “SONGS OF EXPERIENCE” scheduled to be released this year is the last. Thirty years have passed since the phenomenal album “THE JOSHUA TREE” swept the globe. Finally, the day has come when all the songs will be performed.
