Description
It’s “THE JOSHUA TREE to see with your own eyes”. The best footage of the currently hotly-discussed re-release tour “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2017” has been decided. This week, the famous recording “SANTA CLARA 2017”, which enthusiasts around the world whisper “the masterpiece of the early part of the tour”, will also appear, but this is an audience shot that can be called the video version. This work contains the “May 12, 2017 Vancouver performance”. First of all, let’s imagine the position from the whole tour. ・May 12-26: North America # 1 (7 performances) ← ★ Here ★ ・ June 3-July 1: North America # 2 (14 performances) ・ July 8-August 1: Europe (12 performances) In this way, the early part of the tour “North America # 1” has ended, and there is about a week off. The live album “SANTA CLARA 2017” released this week was the third performance of the tour, but this work is the first day that went back even further. It’s the first night for real. This work, which contains such a memorable show, makes full use of various angles. In today’s world, anyone can easily shoot, and as soon as the show is over, the footage is circulated at a ferocious pace. Moreover, this time, U2 is a great masterpiece reproduction show that has the whole world in a frenzy. The momentum and number know no bounds. Of course, most of them are song by song, but this work is a video work in which enthusiasts thoroughly collect the song by song footage and assemble it into almost a full show. Some songs are shot with one camera throughout the entire song, but on the other hand, some songs have a multi-camera specification that switches countless cameras without saying one phrase. In particular, at the closest angle, Bono’s face is fully up on the screen. As expected, there are few people who shoot between songs, and there are also scenes where the fade-in and fade-out occurs, but whether the performance part is one camera or multiple cameras, you can witness plenty of superb scenery. The century’s “THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2017” drawn with such quality is overwhelming. As mentioned in the commentary for “SANTA CLARA 2017”, the show has three major parts. First, the first five songs warm up the venue with super-famous songs from 1983’s “WAR” to 1984’s “THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE”. The main song, “THE JOSHUA TREE”, was released in 1987, and the scent of that time is accumulated in abundance towards that point. The key point here is “MLK”. In fact, it was dropped early at the Seattle performance on the second day of the tour, and has since been replaced by “Bad”. This “MLK” is a rare scene that can only be seen on the first day. And finally, the main part, “THE JOSHUA TREE”, is reproduced. This is where the big spectacle begins. At the beginning, it was a simple 360-degree stage, but from here it transitions to a regular stage with a giant screen. Amazing screen production explodes one after another. The scale, scale, and sense are all amazing. It’s too amazing. First of all, it’s big. It is as tall as a 3-4 story building, and I don’t know how many meters it is on either side. It is a huge wall of images, roughly like a skyscraper turned on its side. Images of endless highways, wilderness, forests, mountain ranges, and other images that represent each song are projected onto it. What is bold is that, despite the huge screen, there are very few images of the members. Usually, a screen at a concert is meant to show the expressions and gestures of the members to distant audiences. However, the image of the song is prioritized over such cuts, and even when a huge Bono appears, elaborate image processing is applied in real time. The scene is as if you are watching a completed PV, and it is the work of the latest technology. In both technology and direction, “the image of the song takes top priority”. And after concluding the main set with a reproduction of the album, there is another encore of a rush of famous songs. After featuring “Beautiful Day” and “Elevation” from 2000, “Ultra Violet (Light My Way)” and “One” from 1991, and the two albums “ALL THAT YOU CAN’T LEAVE BEHIND” and “ACHTUNG BABY”, they returned to the 360-degree stage and performed “Miss Sarajevo”. And at the very end, they closed with “The Little Things That Give You Away” from the upcoming new album “SONGS OF EXPERIENCE”. The show ends with a rush to the present while recreating the great album from 30 years ago. The scale, composition, and production are all on a different level. It is a super spectacular concert that only U2 could have and could not create. If only we could see this show in Japan… this is a record that answers that wish and allows you to experience the whole picture in the best possible view.
