A live performance at Painter’s Mills Music Fair in Owings Mills, Maryland on July 8th from the 1978 US tour is recorded in high quality audience recording for about 50 minutes. Although the set was a little short on this day and they did not play The Sahara Of Snow, you can enjoy a lively performance filled with a hot and spontaneous mood that is typical of this time of year. The freshness of the recorded sound is wonderful, and although it is an audience recording, there is a sense of scale and sound pressure, and the sound image itself is stable, so it is a perfect listening experience from start to finish. There are some parts where the texture is soft and the ensemble is rough, but the unique performance of the four super players is still stimulating even now. Wetton’s vocals are also well-produced and powerful. The arrangement of The Only Thing She Needs, which will be included in the next work, is still incomplete, so each person’s free-flowing performance is fun, and especially Holdsworth’s breathtaking long solo in the second half is a highlight. In the tear-jerking Forever Until Sunday, Eddie’s violin creates a wonderful sound drama. Wetton’s vocals in Thirty Years are superb, and the backing band’s performance, which creates an unparalleled sound drama from the middle to the latter half, is also the best. You can enjoy the great performances and masterpieces that are full of the ideal parts of progressive rock in every part, such as the mysterious By The Light Of Day, the percussive Presto Vivace, and In The Dead Of Night, which produces the concert peak with a strong beat. Before the encore, the band calls “UK! UK!” from the venue. The powerful performance of the whole band, featuring Eddie’s intense violin playing, in Caesar’s Palace Blues is a must-listen. A new must-listen sound source will be added to the original U.K. sound source of the four-person formation.
