Description
TYGERS OF PAN TANG, one of the bands representing the N.W.O.B.H.M. movement, is famous in Japan as “the band that John Sykes was a member of before joining THIN LIZZY.” Even when the group is not present, it still has its own unique charm. The proof of this was his first visit to Japan in 1982 after Sykes left the group. John’s absence certainly disappointed the fans, but the content of the fulfilling live content greatly satisfied the fans who actually visited the venue, and it is still a talking point among enthusiasts. You can understand that this is the “truth” by listening to “BLACKJACK”, which recorded the first day. In this work, the last day of the Tokyo performance, which can be said to be a special live performance along with the first day, is the live performance at Nakano Sun Plaza on September 30th, which is also recorded directly from the excellent original cassette master. In this sound source, Taper recorded a live performance from “1st floor, row 16, number 20”. Unfortunately, it starts fading from the middle of the show’s “Tides” and is not a complete recording (recording time is approximately 57 minutes). However, you can enjoy the sound, which is as good as “BLACKJACK”, with excellent visibility, stability, and ease of listening. During the hotly rocking song “Wild Cats,” fans near the taper were drawn to John DeVallil’s vocals and started singing, and during the guitar solo, you could feel the excitement of the live performance. The sound was more than adequate, and these cheers did not interfere with the performance.) “Don’t Stop By” from the masterpiece “SPELLBOUND” and “Love Don’t Stay” from “CRAZY NIGHTS” also delight fans with their energetic performances. John Deverill’s solid singing ability and the guitar playing of new member Fred Purser give new life to the band’s early songs such as “Suzie Smiled” and “Slave To Freedom,” making them listen carefully. Needless to say, the play of Rob Wyer, a stalwart of The new songs, in which the new lineup has already shown their charm, are also wonderful. “Love Potion No. 9”, which is a cover song with a melancholy piano intro and earnest vocals of “The Actor,” but with a lively play that brings out the band’s individuality (John and the audience can hear it at the end) (The exchanges are also interesting) are a great place to listen. The encore, starting with “Life Of Crime,” features a series of famous songs that represent the band, such as “Hellbound” and “Raised On Rock.” Lastly, “Gangland” closes the live with a powerful play. After this, the band decided to temporarily disband due to friction with the record company over the direction of the band and contract issues that arose from this. Therefore, the sound source containing this 1982 Japan tour will be an irreplaceable item for fans as a record of the era when the young band was most successful.
