Description

The long-awaited live sound source for British hard rock fans is here! From TYGERS OF PAN TANG’s first performance in Japan in 1982, the first performance in Tokyo on September 26th at Shibuya Public Hall will be released using the highest quality audience master directly! This work will surprise even avid live sound collectors and ask, “Is there even a recording like this!” This is a record that shows off the label’s potential! TYGERS OF PAN TANG is known as the band in which John Sykes, who later broke out with THIN LIZZY and WHITESNAKE, was a member. They burst onto the scene in 1980, at the height of the N.W.O.B.H.M. movement, with their debut album “WILD CAT.” Although their debut work was a work that showed their youthful style, they made a big leap forward with 1981’s “SPELLBOUND,” which featured new vocalist John Deverill in addition to the aforementioned John Sykes. In November 1981, they released their 3rd album “CRAZY NIGHTS”. Among the young British bands, they have become a hot topic among fans (this second album has been supported by Japanese fans as well, making the band’s first visit to Japan possible). However, in the spring of 1982, Sykes left the band to audition for Ozzy Osbourne, who was looking for an official replacement guitarist for Randy Rhoads. Although his departure was a blow to the band, they made a fresh start by welcoming former PENETRATION member Fred Purser, and released “THE CAGE” in August 1982. As part of the accompanying tour, the band set foot on Japanese soil. A total of 5 performances were booked for this visit to Japan: 3 in Tokyo, and 1 each in Osaka and Nagoya. In this work, the live performance held at Shibuya Public Hall in Tokyo on September 26th, which was the first performance in Japan, is completely recorded with the highest quality audience sound. “FIRST LIVE IN JAPAN” is known as a known sound source from the same day. This was also a very good recording, but this work, which uses the master directly, is outstanding not only for the freshness and brightness of the sound, but also for the direct feel and realism of the performance. The sound image, which is firmly focused on the musical sounds of the stage, is comparable to any of the recordings that have appeared so far. The performance, which stands out with excellent balance, feels like a mix of line sound sources. The audience’s cheers and applause are ideally distributed to give you a sense of realism, and listeners should be able to fully enjoy both the atmosphere of the venue and the charm of the band! The set list is centered around the new album “THE CAGE”, but includes a well-balanced selection from each of their albums. The songs and performances are full of ups and downs and melancholy melodies that can be described as “this is British hard rock.” The entire album is a high-quality live performance (even the fast-paced numbers have tight consistency, giving you a sense of the reliability of the performance cultivated through live activities). Although it was unfortunate that John Sykes left the group, the chemistry between band stalwart Rob Wyer and new member Fred Purser is good. Their twin-lead guitar play and solid yet friendly band ensemble will entertain you with wonderful performances, starting with the opening songs “You Always See What You Want” and “Lonely At The Top.” John Deverill sings deliciously, especially in the midrange, and there are some scenes that remind him of David Coverdale (as appreciated by fans at the time). In “Letter From L.A.” from the new album, the performance that makes full use of the talking modulator is also effective, and the unique vocals are shown here and there. In addition to songs such as “Love Don’t Stay,” “Blackjack,” and “Don’t Stop By,” from when Sykes was a member, new songs such as “Tides,” “Paris By Air,” and even “Making Tracks” show fans the best of the band. appeal. “Wild Catz”, “Suzie Smiled” and “Slave To Freedom” from their debut work will also be reproduced with a performance that is more advanced than the album. The last of the main set is the single hit “Love Potion No.9” (cover of THE CLOVERS) at the time, which brings us to the peak of the live performance. For the encore, the famous song “Hellbound” from “SPELLBOUND” and “Raised On Rock” from the 3rd album are played with rushing momentum, and the climax is closed with a roaring excitement! TYGERS OF PAN TANG was one of the most impressive bands in the N.W.O.B.H.M. movement, but their live recordings (strangely) don’t have that many varieties. In this work, you can relive their precious premiere in Japan with the undisputed superlative sound. I’m sure there are many fans who say, “I’ve been waiting for an item like this!” Live at Shibuya Kokaido, Tokyo, Japan 26th September 1982 PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) 1. Intro.
