Description
Mike Millard’s master excavation project, which shed a ray of light on a world filled with the COVID-19 pandemic, is the latest release, the unexpected THE TUBES! This work is recorded in Los Angeles on February 22, 1978. This is the ultimate audience recording. THE TUBES stood out as a dark and dark rock that went beyond a hodgepodge, but their true value is their live performance. 1978 was also the year that the historic official live album “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE” was released, which made the world aware of their charm. First of all, let’s look back on their journey and check the position of the show. 1977 ・February 11th – April 27th: North America #1 (11 performances) (“NOW” released in May) ・June 10th – August 6th: North America #2 (14 performances) ・October 21st – 31st: North America #3 (8 performances) ・November 6th – December 7th: Europe #1 (18 performances) ← *Official ・December 31st: Berkeley (2 performances) 1978 (“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE” released in February) ・February 14th – April 15th: North America #4 (43 performances) ← ★Here★ ・April 22nd – June 14th: Europe #2 (22 performances) ・September 9th: Knebworth performance ・November 20th – December 31st: North America #5 (3 performances) This is THE TUBES in 1977 and 1978. “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE” was produced on their first overseas tour, “Europe #1”, and released in early 1978. The Los Angeles performance of this work was the 10th concert of the US tour “North America #4” that began immediately after. It was completely unexpected that Millard had recorded THE TUBES, but the sound was as expected. The thick core, the on direct feeling, and the fine details are at a superb level that is not inferior to the official sound, and on top of that, it has a reality and beautiful sound that cannot be found on a sound board. You can enjoy the Millard sound that has been proven in many historical masterpieces so far. And the show content is also shocking. “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE” was also a live album of about 73 minutes on a double LP, but this work is a full live album of over 117 minutes, which is more than 40 minutes longer. Of course, there is a lot of variety in the repertoire. Let’s organize it here while comparing it with the official masterpiece. Original albums: THE TUBES: What Do You Want From Life? / Mondo Bondage / Haloes (★) / Boy Crazy / White Punks On Dope, YOUNG AND RICH: Don’t Touch Me There / Stand Up And Shout, NOW: God-Bird-Change / Smoke (La Vie en Fumer), REMOTE CONTROL: Be Mine Tonight (★) / Getoverture (★) / Telecide (★), etc., WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE: Overture / Got Yourself A Deal / Show Me A Reason / Special Ballet / Crime Medley / I Was A Punk Before You Were A Punk / I Saw Her Standing There, etc., It’s Not Unusual (★), etc. *Note: The “★” mark indicates songs that cannot be heard on the official live album “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE”. …And so on. While following the basics of “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE,” they have already unveiled new songs from their upcoming album “REMOTE CONTROL,” which has yet to be released. In addition, their debut song “Haloes” and a cover of Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” are also included. Of course, in the case of THE TUBES, the increase in the number of songs is not just an increase in volume, but a direct link to a colorful breadth. The “fun” that “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE” spread has exploded. More to the point, it’s not just the performance. For example, the “Intermission” omitted above is not just a break, but a short film is played, and the hilarious audio of that film is also included. Of course, it was cut from the music work “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE,” but these elements are scattered throughout their shows. This work allows you to fully experience the “true life of THE TUBES” that you could not know even from the historic masterpiece “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE.” The “Millard x THE TUBES” collaboration was the most unexpected and talked-about, but its contents were also historical evidence that further revealed the true value of THE TUBES. Their stage, which I thought I understood from the masterpiece “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE”, was much deeper and more fun. This is a miracle live album that allows you to fully experience the whole picture with the sound of an absolute master. A superb audience recording of the “February 22, 1978 Los Angeles performance”. The sound created from the original cassette of the absolute master Mike Millard is (as always) superb, with a thick core, a direct feeling, and fine details that are not inferior to the official album “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM LIVE”. Moreover, the content far surpasses the official live work, and includes new songs from the next album “REMOTE CONTROL” that has not yet been released, the debut album “Haloes”, and the Tom Jones cover “It’s Not Unusual”. This is a surprising new masterpiece that reveals the true value of THE TUBES, which even the official masterpiece could not fully convey.
