If you’ve taken the time to read this article, you may already be familiar with “SANTA CRUZ 1979 SOUNDBOARD,” which was released last year, but this is a companion piece that captures “the day after.” First, let’s look at the overview of their activities at the time to understand their position in relation to each other. 1978 – April 22: New York performance (May 2nd release of “YOU’RE GONNA GET IT!”) – May 7th – June 15th: North America #1 (14 performances) – June 20th – 27th: UK (4 performances) ← *THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST 1978 – July 6th – August 6th: North America #2 (20 performances) – September 10th – 24th: North America #3 (10 performances) – December 29th – 31st: North America #4 (3 performances) ← *WINTERLAND 1978 1979 – July 23rd – 29th: North America #5 (6 performances) ← ★HERE★ – September 22nd: Appearance at MUSE Concerts (October 19th release of “DAMN THE Release of “TORPEDOES”》・November 10th – December 8th: North America #6 (20 shows)・December 23rd – 31st: North America #7 (5 shows) Beautiful sound surpassing the previous work and mastering that has reached the highest level ever. The Sacramento performance on this album was about three months earlier, and is the third show of “North America #5”. The previous album was “SANTA CRUZ 1979 Along with “SOUNDBOARD,” this is a valuable companion piece that allows you to follow the peak period just before their breakthrough over two consecutive nights. This recording, which captures one of those nights, is a superb stereo soundboard recording, very similar to its sister work. However, it’s not just similar. In terms of stability and the beauty of the sound, this one is a cut above. While retaining the warmth unique to analog, the crisp sound image, free from distortion or looseness, is refined, and the 1979 live performance seeps right into your ears. In its sister work “SANTA CRUZ,” the opening track is “When The Time While “When The Time Comes” was cut in midway through, this release lets you fully appreciate it from the DJ’s comments introducing Tom before the show even begins. Furthermore, this release is a top-of-the-line updated version, polished with unique mastering techniques from the best master recording. There’s no crude manipulation of the already superb sound. The focus is solely on significantly raising the level of perfection. Specifically, first, the pitch. The original sound circulating online was about 20-30% lower (slower) by a semitone, but this has been corrected to the perfect pitch. In addition, the slight noise present in “When The Time Comes” and “Strangered In The Night” has also been carefully treated. While not flashy, it is through the accumulation of these individual details that the highest quality currently available has been achieved. A full show bursting with the energy of the night before the breakthrough. This superb sound depicts a passionate full show, permeated with the feeling of an impending big breakthrough. The set is the same as the previous day’s “SANTA CRUZ 1979 SOUNDBOARD,” but “YOU’RE GONNA GET IT” This is a little different from the tour’s masterpiece, ‘WINTERLAND 1978 (Uxbridge 1525)’. Let’s compare and organize them here. Centered around their first two albums, it’s packed with diverse covers and even new songs from “DAMN THE TORPEDOES,” which hadn’t been released yet. As marked with a “★,” you can enjoy plenty of songs that weren’t on “WINTERLAND 1978,” such as “The Wild One Forever,” “Here Comes My Girl,” and “Dog On The Run.” Above all, you can feel the overflowing confidence and momentum of a band about to conquer the world.
