Description
In 1983, Tom Petty was in the midst of his greatest success, with all of his works since his breakthrough with “DAMN THE TORPEDOES” marking top 10 hits in the United States. A super-excellent live album set that conveys the scene is now available. This work includes two performances by the sisters. This is a 4-disc set containing the superb audience recording of “April 19 + 21, 1983 Universal City”. The biggest appeal of this work is the super-excellent sound that makes you wonder, “Is this the audience?” and “Is this a mirrored recording?” But first, let’s take a look at the show’s position. Lately, Tom Petty from the early 1980s has been reevaluated in the collector world, and “BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER” and “MILWAUKEE 1983” are very popular at our store. In order to understand the positional relationship with such masterpieces, let’s look back at the overall picture of “LONG AFTER DARK Tour”. 1982, June 6th: PEACE SUNDAY COMMITTEE BENEFIT performance ・September 1st-19th: North America #1 (4 performances) ・November 1st: Paris performance [“LONG AFTER DARK” released on November 2nd]・November 30th – December 21st: Europe (14 performances) ← *BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER 1983/January 17th – April 25th: North America #2 (57 performances) ←★Here★/June 1st- 11th: North America #3 (6 performances) This is Tom Petty in 1982/1983. “BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER” was the “European” leg, and “MILWAUKEE 1983” was the “North American #2” live album. The Universal City performance of this work was the same “North America #2” leg as the latter, and was the 54th/55th concert approximately one month later. This work recorded at such two performances is truly the best sound with “super”. It’s not an overwhelming dimension either. It was extremely clear and there was no sense of distance. The strength of the core, the fineness of the details, and the response to the sound make me think, “Huh? FM sound board?” It completely surpasses the two works mentioned above. No, that’s not it. Mike Millard’s masterpiece “L.A. FORUM 1981” also appeared on the previous tour, but this work is more amazing than the work of a famous legendary master in history. Moreover, both performances are so amazing that I am awed. Both have been digitized directly from the tapered original cassette called “markp”, but it’s hard to believe that such masters still existed… Moreover, the sense of unity is delicious because it is the same venue / same equipment / same recording person. At the beginning of “April 21st (DISC 3-4)” the bass is a little thin, but that’s only at the beginning of the first song “A One Story Town”. In about a minute, the sound transforms into a satisfying sound. Of course, even though the sounds are very similar, the two shows are completely different performances. The set also changes with daily songs. Let’s summarize the two performances here. SHELTER era (4 songs) American Girl: American Girl/Breakdown Your Gonna Get It!: Listen To Her Heart (★)/I Need to Know BACKSTREET/MCA era (12 songs) Destruction: Don’ t Do Me Like That/Here Comes My Girl (★)/Louisiana Rain (★: April 19th only)/Refugee/Even The Losers (★: April 21st only)・Hard Promise: A Thing About You ( ★) / The Waiting / A Woman in Love (It’s Not Me) (★) / Kings Road (★)・Long After Dark: A One Story Town (★) / You Got Lucky / Change of Heart (★) Others (4 songs) ・Hang On Sloopy (★) / Stories We Could Tell (★) / Heartbreakers Beach Party (★: April 19th only) / Shout (April 21st only) *Note: “★” mark is official A song that cannot be heard on the album “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!” …and it looks like this. Two songs have been replaced in two days: “Heartbreakers Beach Party/Louisiana Rain” has been replaced with “Shout/Even The Losers”. Comparing with “BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER” and “MILWAUKEE 1983” from the same tour, you can’t hear “Here Comes My Girl,” “The Waiting,” and “Hang On Sloopy” in the former, and “Louisiana Rain” in the latter. In addition, three songs “Even The Losers”, “Stories We Could Tell” and “Heartbreakers Beach Party” are repertoires that cannot be heard in either work. I’m still surprised. A masterpiece live album that surpasses even that mirrored master will appear. There are also two records in the same recording artist’s collection. An unparalleled recording set of beautiful sisters that allows you to experience the best of two performances of Tom Petty’s heyday.
