Description

From the final Japanese tour accompanying “THUNDER & LIGHTNING” in 1983, the Shibuya Public Hall performance on May 19th and the Shinjuku Welfare Pension Hall performance on May 23rd were recorded from the original master audience that was excavated for the first time. First, Disc: 1 & 2 contains the complete performance on the 19th, the first day of the tour. Following the intense guitar and keyboard sound check sound, Phil greets with “Before we start, let me say it, thank you very much,” and starts with Thunder And Lightning. After the show, the audience cheers when the newly joined Sykes is introduced, saying “I made a lot of mistakes. It was a good warm-up, but… John Sykes!” The sound separation is decent, but it is recorded with a large-scale sound, the drum sound is great, and the groove that the band emits is direct. And the guitar solo in the middle of Waiting For An Alibi and the twin lead in the latter half are flashy and exciting, and Phil’s emotional singing in Jailbreak is moving. After the mellow Baby Please Don’t Go and the on-beat This Is The One, the band continues with new songs, and then Angel Of Death from the previous album “RENEGADE”. From the intro to the ending, Phil’s bass featured loudly is a powerful sound, and the song is a medley to Are You Ready. Check out Brian’s drums, which get the crowd going with their unique fill-ins. The sound quality is getting better and better, and the intro to Holy War is very powerful. Sun Goes Down, which features a passionate performance of nearly 8 minutes, is moving, and the enthusiastic clapping in the venue, which is a bit out of place with the melody, is typical of a Japanese performance. There is also a scene in the first half of Cold Sweat where the vocals are turned off. Sykes’ guitar solo is also great, but Phil’s bass is loud, and the first half of the mellow Cowboy Song, which starts with the MC saying, “For the cowboys of Tokyo. Are there any cowboys here?”, is surprisingly clear. And the part where Phil’s passionate encouragement between songs leads into Boys Are Back In Town is also great. Baby Drives Me was a 15-minute performance, with Phil’s humorous and powerful introduction, and each member’s solo was a great listen. Satisfied with the enthusiasm of the audience, Phil praised the audience before the encore, and Still In Love With You, introduced as “for all women and men like Boy George,” was also moving. Sykes’ solo in the middle was overwhelming and can be said to be the best track of the day. The last song, Rosarie, was played, and Phil said in the middle, “Next time I play in Tokyo, I’ll play even greater. Not good, but great. I wasn’t so good tonight. But the audience was brilliant.” This is the first time we’ve ever seen a high-quality take, and the memorable first day of the tour lasts for 111 minutes. Discs 3 & 4 also include a complete recording of the performance at Shinjuku Welfare Pension Hall on May 23, the final day of the tour, with even higher quality audience recording. This was Phil Lynott’s last live performance in Japan, and the band performed more cohesively, and the show proceeded smoothly. The middle part of the show, Angel Of Death, Are You Ready, and The Holy War, which are solid and powerful, are particularly worth listening to. After the sound check, Cold Sweat performed a solid and powerful performance. This day was also recorded for radio broadcast, so perhaps because of that, the overall MC and the hype between and during songs were shorter, and the performance was more solid. Also on this day, Suicide and Sha-La-La were performed, which were not performed on the 19th. And at the end, Phil said “Say Goodbye, goodbye, thank you very much” and closed the show. The first day and the last Tokyo performance of the legendary 1983 Japan tour are here in the highest quality from the original master. Disc 1/ 1. Opening 2. Thunder And Lightning 3.
