Description

In 1983, THIN LIZZY welcomed John Sykes and was running toward the end. A new excavation live album is now available that allows you to experience the final stages of the band at its finest. What is infused into this work is “September 3, 1983 Kaiserslautern performance”. This is a powerful audience recording. Speaking of the Sykes era, there are many official archives, including the official album “LIFE”, the live album “BBC RADIO ONE”, the Hitchin performance “ROCK MASTERS”, and the Dublin performance “THUNDER AND LIGHTNING TOUR”. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the position of this work. 1982《September: John Sykes joins》1983 ・January 26th – March 3rd: UK #1 (21 performances) ← *Hitchin Video《“THUNDER AND LIGHTNING” released on March 4th》・March 6th – April 10th: UK #2 (24 performances) ← *LIFE/Dublin video ・April 27th – May 4th: Europe (6 performances) ・May 17th – 23rd: Japan (5 performances) )《Tour finished once》 ・August 28th: Reading festival performance ← *BBC RADIO ONE ・September February: Dortmund performance (MOR) ・September March: Kaiserslautern performance (MOR) ←★This work★・9 April: Nuremberg Performance (MOR) This is the journey from Sykes joining to THIN LIZZY. Until August 1982, he toured with Snowy White, and there were also solo performances by Phil Lynott, but I have omitted them for the sake of clarity. The “THUNDER AND LIGHTNING Tour” ended once in May 1983, and its final destination was Japan. Originally, they were supposed to disband there, but 4 performances at summer European festivals (1 performance in Reading + 3 performances in West Germany MONSTERS OF ROCK) were added. The Reading Festival, which is the first day, is the official excavation board “BBC RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT”, and the Kaiserslautern performance of this work is the second performance of the West German version of MONSTERS OF ROCK. This work recorded at such a show is a powerful audience recording with plenty of direct feeling. This is the latest work of “GMann”, which has become the biggest topic for HR/HM collectors in 2021, and this is the first new recording to appear. Moreover, the sound is really wonderful, and it is a tight recording that makes you feel like a powerful and thick core is thrust right in front of you. The VFR Fussballstadion, where the incident took place, is an outdoor soccer stadium with no walls or ceilings to reflect sound. It is inhaling the sound emitted from the PA in its entirety. What’s more, even though it’s that powerful, it doesn’t make an explosive or roaring sound, which is amazing. Although it seems that it is not a recording by “GMann” himself and has been digitized from the 1st Gene Cassette, the sound is clear down to the smallest detail and there is no chatter at the peak. In fact, Phil’s singing voice may be a little scratchy due to the fate of late LIZZY, but even that singing voice is as clear as whispering in your ear. The ultra-direct sound depicts THIN LIZZY in her last moments when she was exhausted and on the verge of collapsing. In fact, it is an incomplete recording that ends midway through, but even in a short time of about 40 minutes, it condenses famous songs that are a little different from other live works. Let’s organize it while comparing it with “BBC RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT” which is the closest in terms of timing.・Nightlife: Still in Love With You・Jailbreak: Jailbreak/Emerald/The Boys Are Back in Town・Live & Dangerous: Are You Ready/Baby Drives Me Crazy (★)・Thunder & Lightning: Thunder and Lightning/Cold Sweat ( ★) *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard on the official edition “BBC RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT”. …and it looks like this. Roughly speaking, it is a shortened form of “BBC RADIO ONE”, but the last song played is “Baby Drives Me Crazy”, which is not included in the studio album. Although it is extremely unfortunate that the recording ends in the middle, you can still enjoy the valuable Sykes version for more than 5 minutes. In fact, the biggest highlight of this work is Sykes. The 24-year-old’s fire-like performance could be enjoyed on “BBC RADIO ONE”, but in this work, the enthusiasm of the audience who was knocked out by the rapid fire is also real. Recently, the best recordings from Gary Moore’s era have been discovered, but Sykes’s songs have a higher degree of color change. Although I have a complicated feeling about the balance where Scott Gorham is clearly on the side, I can’t help but get excited by the overjoyed audience…It is such a scorching live album. After this work, “Phil Lynott’s THIN LIZZY” went into an eternal sleep after performing one performance in Nuremberg. This is an amazing new excavation that allows you to experience the final stage with super direct sound. If the tape had not stopped midway through, this is a superb piece that would have definitely been made into a permanent press. A powerful audience recording of “September 3, 1983 Kaiserslautern Performance”, one day before the final performance. Anyway, it has a very direct feeling, and it is an extremely tight recording that feels like a powerful and thick core is thrust right in front of you. Perhaps because the venue is an outdoor soccer stadium, there is no reverberation, and the sound emitted from the PA is inhaled in its entirety. The show was a great performance by Sykes, who was 24 years old at the time, and you can also enjoy Sykes’ version of the valuable “Baby Drives Me Crazy”.
