Description

Tanglewood in July is an excellent bridge between the peak of The Who’s 1970 live performances at the University of Leeds and the Isle of Wight. On this day, there is a stereo soundboard recording of astonishing sound quality recorded by a radio station for broadcasting, but would it be okay to release it as an official performance? The sound quality is so clear that it is a big attraction. However, since it is a live recording recorded by a radio station rather than a record company, there are currently many CDs for mass retailers. The masterpiece “TANGLEWOOD 1970” threw a stone into this lawless world. After all, the sound quality was outstanding, and the performance was also outstanding. It was a magnificent stereo soundboard recording, so it has been sold out for a long time. Above all, it is a record of The Who’s peak live performance. It was a perfect stereo soundboard recording. It is natural that it will sell out if these conditions are met, and it is also natural that there will be a flood of calls for its re-release. So I would like to loudly declare that the long-awaited re-release is finally here, but just when it seemed that the previous release of “TANGLEWOOD 1970” would be enough (hereinafter referred to as “already released”), “GRAF ZEPPELIN” came forward to release a new stereo sound board from scratch. He obtained this sound board in even better condition than the previous release and started to review it from scratch. “GRAF ZEPPELIN” says that they adopted a new master without the bandwidth down like the previous one, but in fact, Tanglewood, which had such good sound quality until then, is recorded in an even better state and is extremely comfortable to listen to. In addition, regarding the several inter-song cuts seen in some of the releases of this sound source, including the already released version, they were meticulously patched from the mono audio of the pro shot audio of the same day, which is familiar to enthusiasts. This editing is a magnificent finish that can be said to be the face of “GRAF ZEPPELIN” and there is no sense of incongruity at all. On the contrary, after the stormy performance, Bill Graham’s closing greeting, which seems to gently soothe the enthusiastic audience, is recorded until the end for the first time, which is a major point, and the value of the document has been improved. It is certainly valuable to be able to hear this announcement clearly after such an explosive performance. And while the sound quality of the previously released version was very good, there was a problem of sound distortion between some songs, but this time it was newly recorded from a soundboard master in good condition, so there is no such instability. Finally, we can hear the Who’s passionate performance in perfect condition, as well as the best sound quality. Even so, the overwhelming thing is the unrivaled performance of the Who on this day. This tour started at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and had the meaning of a triumphant return to America after the great success of “TOMMY” from the previous year, and this Tanglewood was held as the conclusion of the tour. Not only the rough “TOMMY” at Woodstock and Amsterdam the previous year, but also the highly refined performance that evolved from that Leeds was recorded with a stereo soundboard recording that boasts such high sound quality. The perfection of the performance, which has evolved so much that it is obvious at first listen, is overwhelming, even when compared to the famous recordings produced from the “TOMMY” period. The explosiveness of “My Generation”, which is worthy of concluding the spectacular stage of this day, is so overwhelming that it leaves you speechless. The famous recording and performance of Tanglewood has been released by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” as a definitive version. The title and design are based on the old Tanglewood of Scorpio (by the way, this board was a mono audio video), making this the best stereo soundboard album that will make enthusiasts cry! The main sound source is newly recorded. There is no problem this time, where the bandwidth was down from 15kHz on the previous board. There is also no sound distortion like “bububububu” that occurred in several places near the change of tracks on the previous board, and the announcement after the end of the performance (1 minute 40 seconds) is released on CD for the first time in history! The longest ever Tanglewood performance, with no problems such as bandwidth or sound distortion.
